SBI Mid-Season MLS Newcomer of the Year: Saer Sene

Saer Sene was brought to the New England Revolution to do one thing: score goals. Halfway though his first MLS season, it's mission accomplished.

The 25-year-old French striker and former Bayern Munich reserve has bagged eight goals in 15 appearances for the Revolution, providing a physically imposing presence for Jay Heaps' squad up top.

Sene was voted by SBI staff members as the top newcomer to MLS thus far in 2012, beating out a field that included Vancouver right back Lee Young-Pyo and Colorado midfielder Jaime Castrillon.

What are your thoughts on Sene receiving the honor? Did he deserve the accolade? Or should Lee or Castrillon have been given the recognition?

  1. Saer Sene certainly deserves his praise but for someone who watches Castrillon week in and week out, the guy has been a revelation for the Rapids. He has been so instrumental in the transition from long-ball style employed by Gary Smith to Oscar Peraja’s short passing, possession game. From defending to attacking Jaime has been the lynchpin that has held everything together. He’s definitely worth every penny and more. What’s scary is that he’s still learning the league and his teammates. Next season, when he transition is fully complete, Castrillon will be one of, if not the best, two-way midfielder in MLS.
