Sean Johnson was at his best Saturday night.

With a 10-save effort in San Jose, the Chicago Fire goalkeeper put forth a top-notch performance strong enough to capture SBI MLS Best XI recognition for Week 21. While Johnson guided the effort in the back, a trio of forwards put in noteworthy showings as well, as Columbus' Jairo Arrieta, Real Salt Lake's Alvaro Saborio and Seattle's Eddie Johnson all factored in two goals apiece for their respective teams in big wins.

Houston's Brad Davis continued his hot streak with two more assists to reach double digits for the fifth time in seven seasons, while his Dynamo teammate Bobby Boswell was one of the top defenders of the week, with his overall defense against Toronto FC in addition to his flicked-on assist helping set the tone for another Dynamo victory.

Here is SBI's MLS Best XI for Week 21:

  1. Perhaps, but by the same logic Sheanon Williams would also be a CB, which experience has told us is not where he’s best employed. He’s a RB through and through; actually, more properly a right wingback.

  2. Cheers SBI, Danny Califf has been a great addition to Chivas’s defense and scored a nice header against Portland. Nice to see him get some props !

  3. and as a Fire fan, if I had to choose between him saving us 50 odd times, and watching the US Men in the Olympics, I’d choose him making that save in March. Although I might change me tune come November.

  4. Sean Johnson is one of the best young keepers in MLS, plain and simple(as a DCU fan, I rate him even higher than Bill Hamid). Young keepers always make a really bad mistake every once in awhile. It was just unfortunate that Johnson’s mistake happened in a very important game for the U.S. I think its kind of unfair to hold it over his head considering he’s bailed out Chicago numerous times this year.

  5. Sean Johnson is still trying to make up for the screwing up on the most important save he ever had to make in his life… and it was the easiest shot he’s ever faced.
