SBI MLS Team of the Week: Montreal Impact

The New York Red Bulls went to Montreal in first place in the East, and having put together a strong run of defensive results. That didn't stop the Montreal Impact from putting a beating on the Red Bulls and serving notice that they plan on making a playoff run.

The Impact posted a 3-1 victory over the Red Bulls on Saturday that not only drew them closer to a playoff spot, it also earned them SBI MLS Team of the Week honors. Marco DiVaio scored his first MLS goal while Alessandro Nesta put in a stellar performance in his first start for the Impact.

The Impact beat out the LA Galaxy and Columbus Crew for this week's honors.

  1. Montreal got hit pretty hard by injuries at CB this season. With Rivas ans Ferrari coming back into the fold and Nesta getting his first start, we saw how much good CBs can make a team. Rivas and Nesta were beasts. They denied New York’s offense and made it look easy. Ricketts being Ricketts, he made it interesting by fumbling a couple easy balls… Still don’t understand why the Red Bulls didn’t sign Nesta when they had the chance, they could’ve used him in Montreal.
