SBI MLS Team of the Week: Sporting Kansas City

Sporting Kansas City stayed in first place in the Eastern Conference after coming out victorious in league play once again, but that was not the only area in which they enjoyed success this past week.

Along with picking up a 2-0 triumph against the Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium on Saturday, Sporting KC advanced to the U.S. Open Cup final by beating the Philadelphia Union by the same scoreline at PPL Park last Wednesday. And those two shutout performances on the road made Sporting KC an easy choice for SBI's MLS Team of the Week award.

Sporting KC beat out the Los Angeles Galaxy, Toronto FC and the San Jose Earthquakes for the award, but all enjoyed strong weeks.

What do you think of Sporting KC winning SBI's MLS Team of the Week award? Should another team have won? Expecting Sporting KC to continue to grind out results and stay atop the Eastern Conference?

  1. Um, what? Which aspects of the refereeing did you find questionable? When did SKC players do something that was worthy of a red card? In what sense were their goals “given to them,” when both involved perfect passes and clinical finishes?

All of that said, I would have probably given this to SJ myself.

  2. Really?? KC did not play better than the Crew (which are mediocre at best) and benefited from some questionable refereeing. KC got away with not having two players see red and continue the embellish. Also had both goals given to them… I would say LA or SJ deserve this much more.
