An unlucky mistake by a veteran player proved costly for the Colorado Rapids.
Drew Moor committed a blunder towards the end of the first half, and that allowed for Vancouver Whitecaps rookie Darren Mattocks to fire home the winner in their 1-0 victory over the Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday.
Following Marvell Wynne's whiffed attempt to clear a cross, Moor mis-hit the ball and it bounced into the path of Mattocks. The Jamaican forward made no mistake with that opportunity, calmly tapping it home from 12 yards out like a veteran to give Vancouver the win in the Western Conference showdown.
The result brought the third-place Whitecaps within four points of second-place Real Salt Lake in the standings in the West, while the Rapids are in fifth.
Here is the goal:
What do you think of the Whitecaps' 1-0 win over the Rapids? Frustrated by Colorado essentially handing Vancouver the win? Impressed with Mattock's composed finish?

I guess this goes to show how bad the Timbers are…
I blame SBI for naming the Rapids Team of the Week after their win over the Timbers.
*sigh* Another dominant performance by the Rapids. Another 1-0 loss.
