FC Dallas is starting to think about a playoff push, something that would have been unthinkable a month ago, before a dynamic Colombian duo stepped forward to revive a struggling Dallas offense.

The Colombian connection of David Ferreira and Fabian Castillo have been the leading drivers of an FC Dallas resurgence, and they were at it again on Wednesday night in Vancouver, manufacturing both goals as FC Dallas posted an impressive 2-0 victory against the Vancouver Whitecaps in Vancouver.

Castillo opened the scoring off a feed from Ferreira, who also set up a second-half insurance goal from Jonathan Top to seal the victory.

In their last seven matches, FC Dallas has scored fourteen goals. They had scored fourteen goals total in their previous seventeen matches, and just nineteen goals in the first twenty games of the season.

Much of that progress can be accredited to the return of Ferreira, who has notched five assists in the nine games he has played since returning from injury. He had two more assists on Wednesday, setting up both Castillo and Jonathan Top.

Despite a first half that saw Dallas hold possession for much of the action, Vancouver was the closest to breaking the scoring open, as Camilo blasted a 44th minute free kick towards the far post, but it slammed against the crossbar. After the break in the action, Dallas took over, as Castillo netted his second goal in as many games, and Top iced the match away with his first career MLS goal in the 70th minute.

Vancouver is now in a three-way tie with Seattle and LA Galaxy for third in the Western Conference. Dallas now stands eight points out of the fifth and final playoff spot.

The loss was Vancouver's first at home since an April 18th defeat to Sporting Kansas City. They will look to rebound as they will travel to Seattle on Saturday to take on the Sounders in their second Cascadia Cup match of the season. FC Dallas will head to Salt Lake for the second of their three-game road trip, as they will take on Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday night.

Here are the match highlights:

What did you think of the match? Impressed with Dallas' recent run of form? Surprised to see Vancouver stumble against a short-handed Dallas team? See Dallas catch up to the playoff pack in the Western Conference?

  1. Reminds me a bit of Dallas in 09… A late season push for the playoffs that fell just short, but ultimately catapaulted us into the 2010 mls cup final.

I’ll be happy to finish strong, get Blas Perez healthy and Shea back into form, and gear up for a strong 2013 🙂
