Dynamo open CCL campaign with win over FAS

The Houston Dynamo may have failed to win their last two MLS games, but that pair of poor results did not stop them from grabbing a convincing victory in their CONCACAF Champions League opener.

The Dynamo got their campaign in the regional competition started with a 3-1 win over Salvadoran club C.D. FAS in Estadio Custcatlan on Wednesday night. Brian Ching scored the first goal 12 minutes in, Cam Weaver doubled Houston's lead seven minutes later with the eventual winner and Je-Vaugh Watson buried a header in the second half to put the visitors up 3-0 before Jonathan Aguila pulled one back for FAS.

The win tied Dom Kinnear's men on points with Honduran outfit C.D. Olimpia in Group 3. Olimpia defeated FAS in the group opener, 3-0, on Aug. 2.

What do you think of Houston's 3-1 win over FAS? Impressed? How far do you think the Dynamo can go in this tournament?

  1. Cam Weaver is underrated. He should get more time in the Dynamo 4-3-3.

If only LA had a striker like this to convert chances.

  2. Only saw first half, but I was pretty happy with the ref letting the soft challenges go, both ways I might add.

He definitely saved us on what should have been a penalty against Sturgis late in the 1st.

I was disappointed by how soft Camargo would go down, even when it became apparent he was NOT going to get the call.

  3. +1 Watched entire game…some of the one on one challenges almost looked like a street fight…Even the wifey was getting pissed at FAS’s Challenges. And BTW that was some of the WORST Reffing Ive ever seen in a professional match. Good to see Dynamo pick up an away win fielding so many “Fringe” Players. (Ching was AWESOME) Over all tough game and go good win for Dynamo and MLS!

  4. good result. now we need at least a point at olympia mext week as the last 2 games are at home… i am thinking quarter/semi final at best. most of the top mexican teams got some good/new signings in the off season and it will be tough, again, for an MLS team to win this 2012-13 CCL cup.

  5. Happy with the win and I am really happy we got out of there without any red cards. I think the last time we played in El Salvador we were playing with 8 players by the end of the match.
