Gomez scores in Santos’ draw with Puebla

Herculez Gomez got one step closer to assuring himself of receiving a call-up for the U.S. men's national team's friendly with Mexico later this month, scoring his second goal in the early parts of the Mexican Apertura on Friday night.

Gomez netted for the second time in the first three games of the season for Santos Laguna by thundering home a header on a drawn up set piece in the 15th minute of their match against DaMarcus Beasley and Puebla. Gomez's tally gave Santos an early 2-0 lead but unfortunately for them, Puebla rallied and earned a point with two second half strikes.

Here is Gomez's goal (starting at 1:16):

What do you think of Gomez's goal? How many times will he find the back of the net this year?

  2. That’s how you bury a header. Makes great runs into the box and usually lethal in front of net. Santos is loaded with quality so glad to see Herc earning his minutes.

  3. Herc. I just love that guy. I love his attitude, I like how he is getting better with age. He’s such a clutch finisher.

I will say that the header assist on Quintero’s early goal was amazing. I don’t recall ever seeing a keeper’s long kick being headed directly back like that. Good times.
