The days of the Columbus Crew being criticized for their lackluster offense may be over.

First the arrival of Jairo Arrieta provided a good spark to the team's forward line, and now Federico Higuain has begun his MLS career in style.

The Argentine newcomer notched a goal and assist to help lead the Crew to a 2-1 victory over Toronto FC at Crew Stadium on Wednesday night.

Gaven helped Columbus jump out to a lead in the fourth minute when he finished off a Higuain pass to make the score 1-0. Higuain made it 2-0 in the 58th minute when he converted an Arrieta pass for his first MLS goal.

Toronto FC rookie midfielder Luis Silva continued his Rookie of the Year run with a goal to pull TFC within a goal in the 71st minute. That's as close as TFC came as the Crew held on for the victory, which secured the Trillium Cup, which goes to the winner of the TFC-Columbus season series.

The match was the one re-scheduled after the death of Columbus midfielder Kirk Urso. It was originally scheduled to be played on Aug. 5th, but was changed so the Crew could attend Urso's funural.

Here are the match highlights:

What did you think of the match? Impressed with Higuain? See the Crew making a serious run at a playoff spot? See Silva making a successful run at the Rookie of the Year award?

What’s with the low attendance in Columbus? They have a good team and a nice stadium in a great location, but have struggled with their attendance numbers for years. I remember 10 years ago going to Crew games and the place being packed. It’s really disheartening to see.

Other than that, it was a good game yesterday.

An influential Argentinian playing for da Crew in an almost empty stadium and TFC sucking. Wow things change but somehow they stay the same.

Crew fans have been pretty demoralized with the team the last couple of year’s, Urso’s death is a downer and the team has a lot of games in a short period, with Toronto being less of a draw than traditional rivals LA and New England. Arieta and Higuain should arouse fan interest as the Crew try to insert themselves in the playoff race.

He is quite good, this is going to change the Eastern conference standings completely

Man Silva’s on fire. It seems that arrest has woken him up, I’d take him on my team and I’d like to see what he can do on the national level.

Crew’s attendance isn’t great this year, but it’s not bad either. Yesterday’s game was poorly attended because it was originally scheduled for 8/11, but was re-scheduled less than 2 days before the game so the team could attend Kirk Urso’s funeral.

The game was a re-schedule….school just started in Columbus…and so thats part of the reason families cant come out to a 730 night game on a wednesday….is that so difficult to understand?

So sick of these idiot attendance bashers when they know nothing about the team or city. Do you people even care about soccer? If your teams is sub .500 but has good attendance then youre happy? must be TFC fans?

It’s about more than attendance…do you think Manchester United makes more money off attendance or Apparel and TV rights…HMMM…
