Mid-Day Ticker: Lucas lured by PSG, Spurs make move for Damiao and more

Paris St.-German have struck again.

The high-spending French power swooped in to sign rising Brazilian star Lucas Moura, outbidding the likes of Manchester United and Inter Milan for the Sao Paulo attacking midfielder. Reports Tuesday had PSG making a €45 million move for Lucas, who is currently on the Brazilian Olympic team that is vying for the gold medal in London.

Lucas, who won't join PSG until January, is the latest coup for for the overwhelming Ligue 1 favorite, which has spent big to land the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Thiago Silva to an already-capable side this summer.

Here are a few more stories from around the soccer world:

TOTTENHAM CLOSE IN ON DAMIAO

Lucas is not the only Brazilian Olympian on the move, as it appears that Leandro Damiao could be joining him on a move to Europe.

Tottenham are reportedly closing in on the current leader for the golden boot at the Olympics after the club and Internacional had failed to agree on a fee for the striker's services while Harry Redknapp was Tottenham manager.

Damiao has scored six goals at the Olympics and would provide a much-needed boost to Tottenham's attacking corps. Damiao would be the second Internacional star to move to London this summer after the club sold Oscar to Chelsea.

UAE OLYMPIAN ON TRIAL AT MAN. CITY

Brazil is not the only Olympic team having its young talent courted by major clubs.

United Arab Emirates standout Omar Abdulrahman is reportedly on trial at Manchester City after his strong showing in the group stage of the Olympic tournament. The 20-year-old Abdulrahman currently plays for Al-Ain in his native UAE, and he assisted on two goals in the Olympic team's match against Uruguay.

STOKE'S HUTH HOSPITALIZED

Stoke City defender Robert Huth is undergoing tests for a suspected case of meningitis and is in the hospital after being diagnosed with a virus by the club earlier this week.

If Huth, a key component to the heart of Stoke City's defense, has to miss an extended period of time, it could pave the way for U.S. international Geoff Cameron to step in at centerback for his new club, after his transfer was completed on Wednesday.

Can you believe that PSG landed yet another big player on the transfer market? How do you see Lucas fitting in on that roster? Do you think Damiao would be a great signing for Tottenham? Are you amazed at the amount of young, attacking talent on Brazil's Olympic team? What did you think of Abdulrahman's play at the Olympics? Would you want to see Cameron play in the midfield or at centerback in England?

  1. Chris,
I have no idea. I’m thinking Ancelotti (sp?) may have decided to change the system, so players listed as midfielders might play a bit more up top or defensively depending on the situation. There will be more player movement due to the depth on the team. This team is loaded plus 2 at every position and with at least one very good young player at each of those positions including a France U20 Goalkeeper who’s been in the PSG system since he was 14-15. I can think of 4 young players came through the PSG system that are on this current team and there’s more on the way.

  4. 45 million Euros for a child is ridiculous…

Don’t get me wrong he is very talented but the price is double inflated because he is Brazilian…

    ALLEZ PSG!!!!

It looks like an announcement of a trade of Bisevac (PSG) for Réveillère (Lyon) will be announced very soon. So, there will be the Ligue 1 PSG and the Champion’s League PSG. Hope like hell this isn’t like Milan right after the Bosman rule kicked in and they proceeded to buy very very good players and flopped. Alot of young players in this group, so this foundation could be STRONG for awhile.
