Whether it is because he is on the brink of playing Mexico or just an emphatic response to the Los Angeles Galaxy's flat performance last week, Landon Donovan enjoyed one of his best performances of the season en route to picking up SBI's MLS Player of the Week award.
Donovan inspired the Galaxy to a 4-0 win victory over rivals Chivas USA on Sunday, setting up every goal to record a career-high in assists. The performance in the MLS SuperClasico was one of the better individual outings of the year and comes a week after Los Angeles were on the receiving end of a 4-0 rout to the Seattle Sounders.
Donovan beat out a cast of top candidates including Chicago's Chris Rolfe, FC Dallas' Fabian Castillo and Vancouver's Camilo Sanvezzo.
Agree that Donovan was the best player this week? Should it have been someone else?

Now that I think about it, Jones could be a likely candidate considering he captained back in January.
Donovan should have had a goal last night too; he mistimed a slide in front of an open net. Last night was enough to make you wonder how much longer Chivas will continue to exist.
Agreed. With Beckham gone, he was able to play in the attacking central midfield role with Sarvas behind him as holding mid. He thrived.
My money’s on Howard. With this group of players I don’t see Donovan stepping up to take the lead.
Juninho has been really out of form this season. This was easily his best game of the season.
Congrats to Landon. In a somewhat unrelated and random question, who do you guys think will captain the USMNT side against Mexico Wednesday with Bocanegra missing? Will it be between Howard and Donovan?
Juninho was pretty good, i like him, good player.
