Colorado was finally able to put a stop to a duo of losing streaks, as the Rapids entered Saturday night on a six match losing streak, aloing with failing to register a win against Rocky Mountain Cup rivals Real Salt Lake in their last eight matches. With their backs against the wall, Colorado gutted out the win in a 1-0 victory.

Real Salt Lake struggled on offense all night, as they registered only one shot on target the entire match. Colorado took advantage of this, taking the lead right before the end of the first half, as midfielder Joseph Nane scored his first career goal just before the break.

Rapids forward Omar Cummings controlled the pace all night and dictated the action throughout the match. Despite failing to notch a score, his timing was on throughout the night, as his runs were strong and he was able to play just his second full match since May.

Real Salt Lake's best chance to even up the match came in the 64th minute, as Javier Morales found himself open in the box. However, his shot on net was blocked. From there, Real Salt Lake failed to register any threatening opportunities to tie the game.

Real Salt Lake had an opportunity to take over the lead in the MLS Supporters' Shield race, but the team was unable to capitalize, as they looked tired at times, having just played Herediano in a CONCACAF Champions League match on Wednesday night.

Colorado will travel to Dallas to take on FC Dallas next Saturday, while Real Salt Lake will travel to BC Place to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps, who they defeated 2-1 just a week ago.

Here are the match's highlights:

  1. Why hasn’t anyone mentioned that Johnny Steele sucks? What does he have on Jason Kreis that he gets time over Luis Gil? Inquiring minds want to know.

  2. One game doesn’t mean anything. That was not the team that usually shows up. RSL is lucky the score was not 5-0. The Crapids had something to prove and they did it in fashion. Not worried yet. We need Olave healthy. Borchers can’t handle the heat.

  3. Disappointing offense by RSL. Cheapo management should have been more active in the transfer market. It seems like the midfield has gone stale.
