While the U.S. women's national team is still fighting for gold at the Olympics, the next generation of players is preparing for its shot at glory in the U-20 Women's World Cup.

U.S. Under-20 women's national team head coach Steve Swanson has named the 21-player roster that will take part in that competition that will take place in Japan beginning on Aug. 19 through Sept. 8. Among the players Swanson has called up are Stanford forward Chioma Ubogagu, and 2010 U-20 World Cup players Maya Hayes, Crystal Dunn, Samantha Mewis and Mollie Pathman.

Not included on the roster is Lindsay Horan, the 18-year-old forward who bypassed a collegiate career at North Carolina to sign with the Paris St.-Germain women's team last month. She is unavailable because of a knee injury.

The United States is in Group D in this tournament, and it opens its World Cup campaign on Aug. 20 against Ghana. That is followed with a match versus China PR three days later and then the final game in group play against Germany on Aug. 27.

Here is the 21-player roster:

GOALKEEPERS: Bryane Heaberlin (North Carolina; St. Petersburg, Fla.), Jami Kranich (Villanova; Hamden, Conn.), Abby Smith (Dallas Texans; Dallas, Texas)

DEFENDERS: Stephanie Amack (Mustang Blast; Pleasanton, Calif.), Crystal Dunn (North Carolina; Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Julie Johnston (Santa Clara; Mesa, Ariz.), Kassey Kallman (Florida State; Woodbury, Minn.), Mollie Pathman (Duke; Durham, N.C.), Cari Roccaro (Albertson Fury; East Islip, N.Y.)

MIDFIELDERS: Morgan Brian (Virginia; St. Simons Island, Ga.), Vanessa DiBernardo (Illinois; Naperville, Ill.), Sarah Killion (UCLA; Fort Wayne, Ind.), Mandy Laddish (Notre Dame; Lee’s Summit, Mo.), Samantha Mewis (UCLA; Hanson, Mass.), Taylor Schram (Penn State; Canonsburg, Pa.)

FORWARDS: Kelly Cobb (Duke; Chugiak, Alaska), Maya Hayes (Penn State; West Orange, N.J.), Kealia Ohai (North Carolina; Draper, Utah), Katie Stengel (Wake Forest; Melbourne, Fla.), Chioma Ubogagu (Stanford; Coppell, Texas), Becca Wann (Richmond; Chesterfield, Va.)

What do you think of the 21 players Swanson has called? Think this team has a chance to win the tournament? Is there anyone you would have like to seen on the team that isn't on it?
