This Weekend's Soccer on TV

After Saturday, the men's Olympic tournament field will be whittled down to its final four.

The four quarterfinal matches take place across the the United Kingdom, as Brazil takes on Honduras, Japan meets Egypt, Mexico faces Senegal and host Great Britain squares off with South Korea.

The World Football Challenge begins to wind down as well, as Real Madrid plays the second of its four matches in the exhibition tournament against Herculez Gomez' Santos Laguna in Las Vegas Sunday night. Other high-profile teams are also involved in friendlies, as PSG and Barcelona meet in Paris and Manchester United faces Norwegian side Valerenga (which includes a potential clash between look-alikes Wayne Rooney and on-loan Los Angeles Galaxy forward Chad Barrett).

As for MLS, perhaps the match of the week takes place Friday night on national television, as the Houston Dynamo face the New York Red Bulls with first place in the Eastern Conference on the line. It is the first of consecutive home-and-home matches between the two clubs, who have both made DP additions this summer.

    best show on tv?

Boardwalk Empire? Game of Thrones? Breaking Bad?

    or reruns of The Wire?

when are Edu and Bocanegra gonna leave Rangers for a new club? French teams are tracking them both. I’d take any offer to get away from that mess in Scotland

  • Greg

man, didnt really get into boardwalk, and havent watched Game of Thrones (heard it was really good though)

Breaking Bad is the most addicting show I’ve seen since The Wire. Heisenburgs “swag” this season is so bossy this season

But…Nothing beats The Wire though bro

  • Citronomics

Wire 4th season is IMHO the standard for tv drama series. (and yes, full disclosure, I have not seen Breaking Bad.

FYI for the Seattle vs LA game. Tiffert just got his P1 Visa so we could be seeing his debut.

  • Pop

Celtic vs Aberdeen is on FSP but not in HD. Unbelievable. This is a channel that costs $15 a month and DirecTV still shows live matches that aren’t in HD.

  • Shane

Thats why I dropped FSP and got MLS Direct Kick – better soccer than Celtic v Aberdeen anyway.
