Toronto FC vs. Santos Laguna: Your Running Commentary

TOR_Primary_COL  SantosLagunaLogo

Five months after they fought in the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals, Toronto FC and Santos Laguna meet again in the regional tournament, this time in the group stage when the two duel at BMO Field (8 p.m., Fox Soccer Channel).

Considering it is just the second of four Group 1 games, it's a bit premature to call this a true "must-win" game for TFC; however, when taking into account how dominant both of these teams were against the third team in the group, Salvadoran side Aguila, and how dominant Santos Laguna can be at Estadio Corona, the Reds need to come up with three points to feel secure in their chances of winning the group and advancing to the knockout stage.

In their way stands a high-powered Santos Laguna side that includes U.S. international forward Herculez Gomez, who torched TFC for three goals in their two-legged semifinals in the spring, with one of those goals coming at BMO Field. He'll have to contend with new TFC centerback Darren O'Dea, who will get his first taste of CCL play.

If you will be watching tonight's match, please feel free to share any thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below. Enjoy the action.

  1. goal Santos 90th minute, well earned. Frings stumbled outside the area, allowed space to lift the head, and the give and go rewarded Santos’ sustained pressure. They really went after that second goal hard and they got it

  2. Santos with lots of sustained pressure but can’t break thru. Toronto clears well with mid field long ball controlled finally by Amarikwa, but ref blows whistle…….

on ensuing pressure possession from Santos it takes a great Hall save to keep it at 1-1, big play
