Bayern Munich youth striker headlines U.S. U-18 Sept. training camp roster

U.S. Soccer Federation

Meet Julian Green, the latest German-American with a strong club pedigree to suit up for a U.S. youth national team.

Green, a Bayern Munich U-19 forward who was born in Tampa, Fla., and has represented Germany on the youth level, is among 20 players called in by coach Javier Perez for the U.S. Under-18 national team's training camp in the Netherlands from Sept. 6-17. The training camp includes a friendly against the Netherlands on Sept. 11 and other friendlies against U-18 sides from Feyenoord Rotterdam, Borussia Dortmund and Club Brugge.

In addition to Green, other first-timers with the U-18s include one-time Paris St-Germain academy midfielder and California native Piakai Henkel and Maryland native Jacori Hayes. MLS is represented by three Homegrown Players: Philadelphia's Zach Pfeffer, FC Dallas' Kellyn Acosta and Chivas USA's Marco Delgado.

Here is the U.S. U-18 roster:

  1. Thats cool. But it means nothing unless Green actually plays with our U-20’s in the CONCACAF 2013 WC qualifying tournament. If he committs to that then I will be a little more excited about Green.

  2. Overall good squad. What happened to Ethan Sonis – Defensive Mid, he has dominated this year in the midfield at age 16 on Academy U18 team. Named midfielder of the year by TopDrawer for the South Conference. Only true Defensive Mid from the list above. He defends well, tackles hard and he is not afraid to play with the big boys. In addition, he is an excellent passer and runs the pitch at full power all the 90 minutes. He will bring something unique to the U18 team in an sector of the field that is much in need of a warrior. Would love for coach Perez to give him a chance.

  3. I missed this subject post and so it is good to see that the US U20 Womens team did get the soccer recognition on this site which they deserve in reaching the WC Championship game. I wish them luck and success because they will need both to beat a very strong & technical German team.

  4. true, some decent players have started at CUSA but no home grown impact players have surfaced yet.. then again the Homegrown status is relatively new and only a few prospects have come out yet systemwide.. the point i was getting at was they are one of the most involved in the US youth set up compared to any other club out there, which is surprising considering their lack of history and first team success. One would think the Galaxy, DC or NYRB Academy would be more popular…

  5. It is nice to see that many young, potential US National players are getting great soccer training and experience in Europe. But it would also be nice on this popular and excellent site to see some info on the US National U20 Womens team which is playing for the WC championship on Saturday in Japan.

  6. Dylan Greenberg is one to watch. Overall a really good squad and that with players like Emmerson Hynmann, Mobi Fehr and Nick Gaitan not attending

  7. Is Mobi Fehr still a U18? Last I heard he left Tokyo Verdy youth side and was going to sign with Fulham but that never came through, so he ended up at FC Basel but he isnt listed on their youth rosters. I think I read an article on this site awhile back that was hyping him up as a JK style CB.

  8. it seems like none of the players are really developing though. one that comes to mind is de la fuente – consistently called in to the youth nats beforing being let go by chivas usa.

  9. Say what you want about how much chivas usa has failed in mls but their academy is consistantly providing usa youth squad players. Also they seem to draw from LA and across the country as well.
