BRIDGEVIEW, IL- The Chicago Fire's match on Saturday didn't start like they would have wanted, but Chris Rolfe's heroics kept the Fire's hot streak rolling.

Jairo Arrieta pounced on a bad Sean Johnson pass to give the Crew a lead just 15 minutes into the match, but the Fire responded with a pair of goals from Rolfe in the 23rd and 26th minute to give Chicago a 2-1 victory at Toyota Park on Saturday night.

The win pushed the Fire's winning streak to four matches, and improved their record to 7-1 in their past eight matches. The victory also sets up a clash for first place on Friday against Sporting Kansas City at Livestrong Sporting Park. The fire trail Sporting KC by two points.

Johnson made up for his early-game blunder with some important saves in the second half to preserve the victory and strengthen Chicago's hold on second place in the East.

The loss hurts the Crew's chances of earning a playoff spot. They now sit one point behind fifth-place Houston, and two points behind fourth-place D.C. United in the East playoff race, with both D.C. United and Houston set to play on Sunday.

Here are the match highlights:

What did you think of the match? Starting to think Chris Rolfe deserves a U.S. national team look? Impressed with how Sean Johnson shook off his early-game blunder? Think the Crew can still make the playoffs?

  1. Rolfe should be in the conversation for a USMNT call-up. The USMNT still lacks intelligent attacking middies, and Chris Rolfe fits that bill along with Chris Pontius.

  2. The chemistry between Rolfe and MacDonald is beautiful and Nyarko may not score many goals but he is a fantastic creator and defends like crazy. Klopas has them playing like a team all season and his substitutions are “right on”. This has been a fun team to watch this year.

  3. I’m a Fire fan but I don’t see him as an MVP candidate. Two reasons: he came in too late in the season, and there are too many games where he’s just too quiet. MVPs totally take charge of games. Rolfe quietly makes his mark – and sometimes not so quietly. But he is likely to top 10 goals this season, which I think was his previous high-water mark for the Fire.

  4. If Ives doesn’t have the Fire higher then 4th in the rankings I’m going to find his house and write”Jabroni” with spray paint in his front yard. Just joking I wouldn’t do anything like that.

  5. Rolfe needs to be in the MVP talk. Since his return the Fire have been amazing. Also, with Pappa and Grazini (?) Gone, this team has come alive. They work as a team, a collective.
