HARRISON, N.J.– The Columbus Crew started out Saturday night looking every bit like a team capable of handing the New York Red Bulls their first home loss of the season.

Then Thierry Henry got involved.

The French star responded to the Crew's third-minute goal by deliver twol goals and an assist, including a jaw-dropping Gol Olimpico in second-half stoppage time to give the Red Bulls a 3-1 victory at Red Bull Arena.

Henry scored a ninth-minute equalizer and delivered the goal of the night in second half stoppage time when he curled a corner kick into the Crew net to put the match out of reach.

The victory pulls the Red Bulls to within two points of first-place Sporting Kansas City, which will visit Red Bull Arena on Wednesday with the top spot in the Eastern Conference on the line.

Milovan Mirosevic opened the scoring for the Crew with a third-minute tally, but Henry needed just six minutes to respond. He collected a perfect long pass from Rafa Marquez and beat Chad Marshall for the equalizer.

The Red Bulls needed a bit longer to find the go-ahead goal, and it came courtesy of an Henry corner kick, which Dax McCarty headed home in the 78th minute. The Crew lost starting goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum on the play after he crashed head-first into the right post of the goal.

The Crew were without Argentine star Federico Higuain, who was limited to a late-game appearance due to a bruised foot. When he came on in the 89th minute it looked as though he might have a chance to deliver some heroics.

Instead, it was Henry who delivered, putting the match out of reach with a jaw-dropping goal in stoppage time, curling a corner kick off the back post and into the net to make the final score 3-1.

  1. Marquez played well for once. I still don’t trust him to give an honest effort on a consistent basis, though. 60 good minutes in 2 years isn’t enough. Dax was the best non-Henry player on the field tonight. He was everywhere and put that giant balloon head to good use on the 2d goal. Henry would have had a trick but for an amazing save by the Crew keeper. That guy was unconscious…. Literally. He knocked himself out to make that save….. Literally. What an effort.

  2. henry was amazing tonight, but the play of dax, the backline, and rafa marquez in particularly is what really impressed me, this team can go places as long as those factors remain healthy
