MLS Match Night: Your Running Commentary

Three matches unfold across Major League Soccer tonight, each with its own playoff implications as the regular season's stretch run continues.

In the Eastern Conference, a matchup between two teams currently occupying playoff spots sees the Chicago Fire host the Houston Dynamo with just one point separating the two teams. Both clubs will be missing a creative presence in the midfield, as Marco Pappa has now left the Fire for Europe, while Brad Davis will miss tonight's game with an illness.

Meanwhile, FC Dallas hosts the Seattle Sounders in what is essentially a must-win game for the home team. Dallas sit five points behind fifth-place Vancouver, so a failure to convert a home game into three points would be a major setback. Seattle, on the other hand, will look to move further up the West standings after being passed by the LA Galaxy last night.

The night's final game features the San Jose Earthquakes as they host Chivas USA. San Jose are currently in the lead for the Supporters' Shield, but a number of teams are on their heels. Chivas has experienced a week of front-office turmoil, but still hold several games in hand on the rest of the conference and aren't out of the playoff picture quite yet.

Here is tonight's MLS schedule:

7:00pm – MLS Live/MLS Direct Kick – FC Dallas vs. Seattle Sounders

7:00pm - Galavision – Chicago Fire vs. Houston Dynamo

9:00pm NBC Sports Network  San Jose vs. Chivas USA

I know every team has a guy or two that goes down soft, but as a team does anyone rival Dallas for seemingly everyone hitting the deck rolling around at the slightest touch?

Somewhat unrelated. Is there anyone on this site that writes up summaries of RSL games? I’m not criticizing, I’m just wondering. I’ve just been surprised not to see a review of yesterday’s game.

Wow – lots of terrible on the one-on-one between Agudelo and Busch – terrible back pass by SJ, terrible decision making and execution by Agudelo to not capitalize, and terrible work by the linesman to not recognize that Busch came out of the box to hit that with his hands – I’m fine with the AR missing that though since Chivas didn’t deserve to benefit in any way from Agudelo’s terrible play.
