The Los Angeles Galaxy are rolling up the Western Conference standings, and Robbie Keane and Juninho are leading the team's charge.

Both players scored two goals in the Galaxy's 4-2 drubbing of Toronto FC on Saturday, providing the latest outstanding efforts in what have been tremendous seasons for both. Their outings vs. TFC made them easy selections for this week's SBI MLS Best XI.

Chris Rolfe was also a member of the multi-goal club, with his two strikes against the Columbus Crew helping the Fire rally for an important victory in the East playoff race. Freddy Adu was also in on the multi-goal magic, breaking through with a strong showing in the Philadelphia Union's 3-1 win vs. the Houston Dynamo.

Dan Kennedy was on the losing end twice last week, but he was still our pick as top goalkeeper in MLS last week for making a plethora of outstanding saves to keep Chivas USA in a pair of matches they wound up losing 1-0.

Here is the rest of this week's SBI MLS Best XI for Week 29:

  1. Dunivant is actually the best scorer of the 4, it’s just that he rarely gets into those positions, and his service is sub-par this season. I feel like he used to be a lot better on those overlapping runs.

Looking forward to how well Gaul develops. He’s got Gonzales’ body but has a better touch. He just never played defense until the pros, so he doesn’t have the same instincts yet. If he can improve on his positioning and tactics, he could be the next up and coming CB.

  2. Just one glaring omission from the team of week. Mwanga scores two special goals vs the top team San Jose on the road and it’s highly regarded defender Bernardez is the victim.

  3. Agree on Franklin..he is almost there

AJ was undersized in college and now in MLS, but he continues to consistently get it done in the middle. He can also play Right Back in a pinch

Like Gonzalez, Dunivant is terrific on defense, but he needs to work on his offense. These guys rarely get burned. Gonzalez is very quick for his size and will be a beast on offensive set pieces once he can improve in this area.

No doubt this back 4 plays well together…Montreal’s is good also and SKC’s overall defense is probably the best in MLS.

  4. Franklin is too inconsistent, and needs work on his one or two chances he gets offensively a game. Once he starts scoring those goals (should probably be at 3 or 4 on the season by now), I see him getting some recognition.

AJ is too small for the NT. But he could work against the south american teams who aren’t as physical or tall.

Dunivant is one of the smartest and most dependable players in the league, but not the most gifted. Against international opposition, he may get burned.

Leaving us with Gonzales who definitely does need a call up, he is a beast, but with his poor footwork, he needs some improvement before he can break into a starting role for the Nats.

They just work so well as a unit that it’s difficult to judge their individual skill levels is all.

  5. I think at some time you will need to add the whole back line of the Galaxy…all four of them (Dunivant,De La Garza, Franklin and Gonzales) as SBI’s best. The two goals allowed by the Galaxy in the Toronto win ( both goals were off deflections, by the way) were the first in 351 minute, among the longest for a team this season. While Juninho and Keane must get credit for the goal scoring spree they have been on. The fact is the Galaxy backline is the best in the MLS (and they are ALL AMERICAN!! (JK pleeez take note)

  6. lots of quality performances to chooses from, a good thing

Ives, how about a sub of the week included in the XI, or a game changer of the week or something like that? or do you have that already? if so please disregard this message. Btw have you seen how Benny is being played in the super sub role in NE by Heaps recently? Looked good this weekend in that role

  7. Really thought Arne Fredreitch played a great game for the Fire, stepping up well and policing the box. Was expecting an honorable mention for him this week.

  8. As a Galaxy fan I’m not a big ChivasUSA fan, but after watching Dan Kennedy play some games I’m becoming a fan of his. He needs to go to another club, or if he can may be give overseas a shot. I hate to put it this way but he’s too good a goal keeper for a team playing so bad.

  9. Austin Berry needs more notoriety. Berry was a clinical monster in this game. He is certainly a ROY candidate. Even Klinsmann should be taking notice.

  10. Not sure how Rolfe became a left mid

(SBI-It’s just for the purposes of laying out the Best XI. Darrius Barnes doesn’t play right centerback in a 3-5-2 either. It’s not that serious Jeff.)

  11. Imagine if Kennedy actually played for a half-decent team. He would absolutely dominate. Easily one of the strongest GKs in MLS, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at his GAA.
