When the 2012 MLS season began, Matt Hedges was penciled in as a rookie option off the bench for FC Dallas, but as the year has gone on he has established himself as a regular starter and ever-improving presence for a team on the comeback.

Hedges showed this past weekend just how far he has come. He helped lead the Dallas defense after losing centerback George John to injury and he was a key figure in leading FC Dallas to a vital shutout victory against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday. His performance made him the clear choice for SBI MLS Rookie of the Week.

Hedges beat out a field of candidates that included Toronto FC's Luis Silva, New England's Kelyn Rowe, New York's Connor Lade and Chicago's Austin Berry.

What did you think of Hedges performance last weekend? What MLS rookie impressed you the most in Week 28?

  1. I’m very impressed with how well he has played in his first year. If he keeps playing and improving I would not be surprised to see him get a call up in the next two years or so.

  2. He has done a great job filling in for either John or Ugo. Not worried one bit if John goes abroad or Ugo retires. Matt might be over in europe in a few years as well
