SBI MLS Team of the Week: Chicago Fire

Though they aren't being talked about much, the Chicago Fire can certainly stake a claim to the title of hottest team in Major League Soccer.

The Fire have won six of seven matches to climb into second place in the Eastern Conference, and their recent victories against Toronto FC and Montreal helped them reach the 50-point mark. Their two-win week also helped their earn SBI MLS Player of the Week honors.

Chicago traveled to Canada to post a road victory against Toronto FC before returning to Toyota Park for an impressive 3-1 victory against the Montreal Impact.

The Fire beat out of field of candidates for Team of the Week that included the LA Galaxy, FC Dallas and the San Jose Earthquakes.

  1. It took FRANK about one calendar year to get the hang of this MLS coaching thing. While the jury is still out to be certain, he is looking a little like JASON KREIS at the moment: a guy who COULD have been fired, but patience proved him more than compotent.
    His adept handling of the astonishing roster turnover is admirable to say the least.

  2. The losses of Grazzini and Pappa don’t seem as bad in retrospect when you consider-

    a) Grazzini had never stayed anywhere more than 1.5 years and seems just as at fault as management

    b) Pappa was leaving in half a year anyway

    c) Alex+Flaco+all the other signings since the start of the season (Arne, Berry, Rolfe, etc.) are net-better than what they had before.
