SBI MLS Team of the Week: New England Revolution

After a franchise-record winless skid, the New England Revolution have been reduced to the role of MLS playoff spoiler, and that's exactly the role they played this past week in cooling off the hottest team in the league.

The Revolution snapped a 10-game winless stretch by ending the Columbus Crew's six-game unbeaten streak with a 2-0 result to claim SBI MLS Team of the Week honors. Making the performance more impressive is that the Revs were able to halt in-form attacking players Federico Higuain and Jairo Arrieta, and the attack was led by Diego Fagundez and Dimitry Imbongo instead of starting strikers Saer Sene (torn ACL) and Jerry Bengtson (international duty).

The Revs, who will look to play spoiler again this weekend against D.C. United, got the edge over the Seattle Sounders, who secured a stronger foothold in the race for a top-three playoff berth in the Western Conference with a win over Chivas USA; and the Houston Dynamo, who returned to their winning ways with a big home victory over Real Salt Lake.

What did you think of the Revs' win over Columbus? Do you think they can derail D.C.'s playoff aspirations as well?

I think everyone who commented before me in the three hours this has been up pretty much summarizes my feelings on the Revolution, and that’s coming as a Revs fan.

Fagundez look decent, had some lively moments, specially on the first goal. Only hood thing about being out of the playoff race is seeing a youngster like him get some mins

That’s exactly what we said last year…

We are making NO PROGRESS, being a Revs fan is frustrating for so many reasons.

From the days of Twellman and Dempsey to this car wreck is hard for any fan. The Revs have no flow and are hard to watch. The single best thing they have is Heaps, but he needs help on the pitch. Thre is no strong (young)foundation to build on.
