Clint Dempsey will likely make his debut for Tottenham Hotspur, as they play host to Reading today. Dempsey, who was acquired by the London club on the final day of the transfer window, has yet to play this season due to holding out and not playing for Fulham in the first handful of matches to open the year. Dempsey, who played twice in the span of five days for USMNT against Jamaica, will likely see his first playing time as a subsitute off the bench.

Another American playing for Tottenham is Brad Friedel, who will continue his normal routine of having his name announced during the starting lineups, as the American goalkeeper will extend his record consecutive starts streak to 308. Friedel continues to barely hold off recent Tottenham signee Hugo Lloris, who also joined the club during the final day of the transfer window.

Elsewhere in Italy, Inter Milan will look to return to form after struggling in a 3-1 loss to Roma two weeks ago, as they take on Torino. The Roman club will also be on the pitch Sunday, as they travel north to take on Bologna.

Genoa will look to continue their strong start to the season, as they travel to Turin to take on defending Serie A champions Juventus in a pivotal early-season matchup.

Enjoy the action. (Today's TV schedule is after the jump):

  1. The only thing I am implying as a huge Jozy and USA supporter is a continual upward trend in Altidore’s development and performances for both club and USA teams. Anything else you surmised from my comment is projection.

In this comment I’m just a huge fan excited about one of my favorite players.

I’m not interested in breaking down and analyzing why and how the USA doesn’t play like xyz or whatever. Because everything is fluid and one day its one thing and the next day its the next. As a US supporter I’m just here to root for our guys thru thick and thin. Anything else (criticizing player Y for that or Coach Z for that) doesn’t interest me because it’s tiresome. I am proud to be an American and love our soccer team 🙂

  2. This is exactly right. He came on in the Jamaica match looking to play football, but by then Dempsey was gassed and everyone else was playing to kill off the game.

  3. Jozy is already a very good striker.

You seem to be implying that when he is “defendable” it is because he wants to be.

TomG quite rightly pointed out that the AZ offense is a pretty well honed machine where Jozy has spent quite a great deal of work and time fitting into the scheme and reaping the rewards of his work.

To expect him to show up on a team with a completely different set of players and a scheme that changes from game to game and replicate his club form instantly is a bit much.

US fans have very short memories and forget how long it took to integrate Clint Dempsey into the US team or (vice versa) and until that happened most of you were saying he was selfish and only played for Fulham.

Boyd and Gomez currently fit what is currently going on with the team but it would be a mistake for JK to not keep trying to fit Jozy in.

  4. By far the best match I have seen Jozy play. 3 goals, 1 assist and 2 other passes that should have led to goals…..if you re-watch the jamaica match this is the same style he attempted to play but it didnt come off. In Holland he is a target forward but he passes the ball back to the mids/support quickly and makes a run for a one-two. I watched him attempt this 3 times during the US match and the other players just werent on the same page. It will come with more practice. Anyway great match for Jozy now time to watch Hoffenheim 2nd half and the Tottenham match

  5. All I have to say is Klinsmann seems to not be putting Jozy in element to succeed for the national team. Jk better start playing more attack minded middies from here on out because Jozy is playing out of his mind when he actually gets decent service for his club team.

JK better start maximizing Jozy’s potetntial for the national team.

Awesome to see him playing so well for club.

  6. Ya, pretty sure he’s starting, and Lloris isn’t happy. Manager made a comment essentially saying it’s impossible not to start him if he keeps performing the way he he has. I’d imagine he’ll be in a pretty short leash, however. Any sign of slipping and he’ll be outta there.

  7. AZ plays a very proactive style with intricate passing, domination of possession and midfield and forward line. Jozy’s start in Jamaica was for a side that had zero value for possession, zero service, zero linkup play, awful passing, and 3 dmids that had zero interest in getting the ball to the forwards. None of the forwards saw the ball at all outside of the first 5 minutes. I don’t remember Boyd getting a single touch after he came in for Jozy. It was just an awful, impossible game for a forward to look good. Not fair to place any judgement on that game. He was poor in his 10 minutes as a sub in Columbus but its tough to say he’s not playing we’ll for USMNT bc of 10 poor minutes. His last full run before this was against Italy where he was one of the best players on the pitch in a great win. That game was the best USA has played under Klinsi.

  8. So you believe he accidently mishit
the ball directly at two teamates
who were charging into the box?
    I respectfully disagree with your
pessimistic view of the play and
give Jozy the benefit of the doubt.

  9. I mean, that’s nice of you and all, but is your wife hot? I mean smokin hot? Like hot enough to match the level of jozy’s play today? That’s the only way it’s fair….

  10. I feel like when Jozy WANTS to, he can be undefendable. He’s playing so strong and smart today. I bet that as he grows and gets older he will learn to play like this more and more. For the US and for eventually a “big” club.

  11. I agree with everything you said up until the actual pass; I thought he was shooting, by the way he set himself up and swung his leg, and mishit it, luckily for him and his team. Either way, it’s great to see him playing confidently and doing the little things right more consistently.

  12. And at a 2nd for Jozy. Sick goal. Ball over the top of the D beats the offside trap. Jozy traps it with his chest and takes it mid-air to add to his 2nd of the day.

  13. The kid just keeps getting better and better. On the second goal, not only did he get the assist, he started the whole sequence with a trap and then nifty pass. After that, he made the spread right run that was precisely where he needed to be. Then was unselfish with the pass as he would have been justified in shooting from that position.

    Good times.

  14. Jody with a goal and assist in first 30 mins of AZ game. Looking good, excellent first touch and hold-up play so far. Don’t know where this was forUSA games but it could be from countless factors; glad to him still doing well domestically

  15. Jozy with a goal and assist in the first 30 minutes. Nice one touch goal on a give and go.
Seems to be moving with purpose today and not just going through the motions.
