Time is running out on the Montreal Impact's playoff hopes, and on Saturday they went into their match with Sporting Kansas City knowing full well that anything but a win would likely spell doom for their post-season chances.

Sporting KC isn't worrying about making the playoffs, but they know they can't afford many slip-ups if they are going to hold onto first place in the East, and they played like it on Saturday. Their stingy defense posted yet another road shutout as the Eastern Conference foes settled for a 0-0 tie at Stade Saputo.

Neither team could mount consistent offensive threats in this defensive struggle that featured just five shots on goal combined. A Marco DiVaio header late in the match was the Impact's last and possibly best chance of grabbing all three points.

Sporting KC continued their strong play at home, posting their sixth shutout in seven road matches in all competitions.

The draw extends Sporting KC's lead atop the Eastern Conference to five points, with second-place Chicago playing Columbus tonight. Montreal remains six points out of a playoff spot with just three more matches left to play this season, and with two more matches played than current fifth-place Houston.

Here are the match highlights:

What did you think of the match? Disappointed in Montreal's recent form? Impressed with Sporting KC's ability to make things difficult on home teams?
