It is no secret that Radamel Falcao is one of the premier strikers in world soccer right now, so it should come as no surprise that several inquiries were made for his services during this past summer transfer window.

Atletico Madrid chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin revealed Wednesday he turned downed Falcao interest from four clubs this past summer, including Chelsea and Manchester City. Gil Marin did say, however, that he believes the financial inequality of La Liga will eventually force Atletico to sell the star Colombian striker sooner than later.

The 26-year-old Falcao has enjoyed a strong start to the current season. He scored a hat-trick last Friday to inspire Atletico to a 4-1 thrashing of Champions League winners Chelsea in the European Super Cup, and has three goals in two league games.

CHELSEA AIMING TO EXTEND COLE'S STAY

Ashley Cole has been one of the better left backs in the Premiership in recent years, and Chelsea are trying to make sure he sticks with them for the foreseeable future. The 31-year-old Cole is heading into the final year of his current deal, but the Champions League winners have reportedly offer him a one-year extension. Cole has been linked with Real Madrid in the past.

JOHNSON WITHDRAWS FROM ENGLAND CAMP WITH INJURY

The injury bug just will not leave England alone right now. Roy Hodgson has been left without a ninth player for the Three Lions' upcoming World Cup qualifying opener against Moldova on Friday, as Adam Johnson had to pull out of camp with a thigh injury. Johnson joins the likes of Wayne Rooney, Ashley Cole and Andy Carroll as players unavailable for the upcoming match. No immediate replacement for the Sunderland winger is expected.

BOLT MAY GET CHANCE IN MAN UTD FRIENDLY NEXT YEAR

Olympic track star Usain Bolton might not ever get his desired deal with Manchester United, but that does not mean he will never play for them. Sir Alex Ferguson recently said that he would consider inviting Bolt to play in next year's Real Madrid Legends match, a glorified friendly between Real Madrid and Manchester United. Bolt is a lifelong United fan and he recently attended a game at Old Trafford.

  1. I don’t see how these teams think the current transfer market can sustain itself. Sooner than later there will be a huge issue with the footballing financials.

  2. Seems when Fernando Torres was at his hometown club Atletico, no matter how excellent was, the club was just crap. Once he left Aguero and Forlain started scoring numberous goals and then once they left Falcao has come along to help.

  3. They have a far better chance at reaching the Champions League this year with him (and the big payout related to it). They can still sell him in January or next summer. Hopefully after they’ve qualified for UCL and found someone to make up for some of the goals he’d normally be scoring.
