That sound you hear is Sporting Kansas City fans breathing a collective sigh of relief.

Roger Espinoza had an MRI and X-rays taken on Monday morning and has been ruled out two to four weeks with a right anterior medial ankle sprain. Espinoza sustainted the knock in the second half of Sporting KC's 1-1 draw with the Columbus Crew on Sunday. He is expected to return to Kansas City immediately for additional evaluation and treatment.

The timeframe of recovery for Espinoza means he could be back in time for Sporting KC's playoff run, but likely will miss the remainder of the regular season. Espinoza will miss Honduras' upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Panama and Canada because of the injury.

What do you think of this development? Concerned about Espinoza returning to top form? Just happy he will be back in time for the playoffs?

  1. Clearly, this is a bad deal for Honduras, and for Espinoza, who I’m sure wants very badly to be playing. But as for SKC, it’s not terribly timing for the injury. There have been times this year when 2-4 weeks would have meant 6-8 games across various competitions, but it looks like it will be two games, with the team already having locked up a playoff spot? Obviously, SKC losses could affect seeding and so forth, but even that isn’t a huge deal as long as they don’t sink to fourth. Long story short: as month-long injuries to a key player go, this one shouldn’t be too awful for the club.
