Friday College Rewind: VCU thrashes Xavier, Charlotte edges Saint Louis, and more

Four Atlantic-10 teams ranked in the SBI Top 25 took the field on Friday night in a pair of important matches, and by the end of the night it was the lowest-ranked team of the four that made the biggest impression.

SBI No. 25 VCU not only handed No. 8 Xavier their first loss of the season, they dismantled them. The Rams blew away the Musketeers, 4-1, to move into a tie for first place in the Atlantic 10. Four different VCU players scored goals on the night, including scoring leader Jason Johnson.

The other leader atop the A-10 standings is SBI No. 16 Charlotte, which traveled to Missouri and handed No. 11 Saint Louis a 1-0 loss. Senior forward Donnie Smith provided the game-winning goal for the 49ers in the 48th minute as Charlotte posted their fifth shutout in six matches.

The biggest upset of the night saw No. 17 UCSB suffer their second straight loss, dropping a 1-0 overtime decision to Stanford. Senior forward Adam Jahn headed home the winner in the sixth minute of overtime to give the Cardinal the victory.
