Ashley Cole's now infamous tweet grabbed its share of headlines last week, and this week will be no different it appears.

Cole has been charged with misconduct by the English FA for his tweet that came in response to the John Terry racism case. The 31-year-old fullback, who has since apologized for the tweet, has until October 11 to responde to the charge

Cole is is due to join the England national team camp on Monday to prepare for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland. Cole has 98 career caps for the Three Lions and he could reach 100 if he plays in both upcoming games.

Here are more stories from around the soccer world:

A New York Red Bulls youth coach was fatally stabbed to death in New York City on Sunday morning. Mike Jones was found lying on the ground on 14th street between 5th and 6th avenues around 4:30am on Sunday after being slashed several times in the head, neck and chest. The 25-year-old Jones, who, according to police, also had one of his ears cut off was rushed to a nearby hospital but died due to the amount of blood he had already lost. Jones' suspected attacker is still on the loose, though recent surveillance footage that depicts what he looks like has been released.

The injury bug just refuses to leave Barcelona alone. Add Dani Alves to the list of walking wounded for the Spanish giants, as the Brazilian defender has been ruled out for three weeks due to a pulled muscle in his left thigh. Alves suffered the knock in the first half of Barcelona's 2-2 draw with Real Madrid on Sunday and he was replaced at halftime. Barcelona is currently without Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique, Eric Abidal and Thiago Alcantara because of respectice injuries.

Several players have been recalled to the Italian national team for the first time in a while, but no player is likely to draw more attention than Mario Balotelli. The controversial Mario Balotelli was recalled by Azzurri head coach Cesare Prandelli for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Armenia and Denmark after missing last month's games against Malta and Bulgaria because of an eye injury. Others welcome back into the fold include Alberto Gilardino and. Andrea Ranocchia

What do you think of Cole being charged over his tweet? Expecting Barcelona to struggle in the coming weeks given all their injuries? What kind of controversy do you think Balotelli will get himself into in this camp?

Yet another case of a tweet highlighting stupidity.

Tweeting doesn’t make you a fool, they only reveal how foolish you already were.

    Social media. Gotta love it.

I think it also reveals the character of this fool and how Terry really did get away with well worst than what Suarez did and got a lesser punishment….

and 14th btw 5th & 6th ave???? are you kidding me??? that’s an incredibly busy street

This looks to me like the FA is getting a bit Tyrannical when it can’t even be criticized in social media without coming down hard on someone. England seems to have a problem with Twitter and Facebook. When someone says something controversial on a social media site they could get sued and are sometimes put in jail. For stupid stuff like racist jokes, it’s a culture that does not believe in Freedom of Speech but instead is ok with giving the government the power to say what is out of bounds and what is not.

I hope they don’t do the same with protesters of an unjust war or other such things, that could lead to a real destruction of democracy.

    that’s an incredibly busy street

At 4:30 AM on Sunday most streets are close to empty around the world; I am not familiar with NYC however….

That’s odd. There were a few comments here yesterday critical of how the murder story was reported on this site. None of them were overly harsh, had offensive language or anything, but they appear to have been deleted. But a comment talking about seeing Cole’s penis is apparently ok. That’s very disappointing to see.
This is an old post on the site now, so I don’t know if anyone will see this, but I’m curious if this will get deleted as well, seeing as it’s mildly critical as well.
