SBI MLS Best XI: (Week 29)

Thierry Henry turned in what might have been his best game of the year in leading the New York Red Bulls to a 4-1 rout of Toronto FC, a performance that made him an easy pick for SBI MLS Best XI.

Henry's three assists and game-capping goal completed a virtuoso effort for the French striker, one of a plethora of MLS forwards to enjoy outstanding weekends.

We only had room for three forwards on SBI MLS Best XI, but could have easy made an entire lineup of forwards based on the good games so many of them had. Steven Lenhart makes our team for coming off the bench and scoring two goals to help the Earthquakes salvage a draw against FC Dallas, while Alvaro Saborio earned a place courtesy of his hat-trick.

The forwards who didn't make the Best XI deserve mention this week, with players like Fabian Espindola and Alan Gordon being just as worth as the teammates who made it, while Jairo Arrieta and Blas Perez would have been locks most other weeks. Kenny Cooper and Bright Dike also turned in solid outings that fell short of our Best XI.

Here is the rest of the SBI MLS Best XI for Week 29:

I thought Seth Sinovic was excellent against Chicago. Also, Henry was so good he should be listed more than once.

  • Fishter

Brian Ching changed the game against New England when he came on, thought he should of been included

Give it up already. All this hate on Lenhart is getting tiresome. He played a good, clean game on Saturday, and he scored two good goals.

  • Conrad

Seems to be one of those persistent memes that no amount of evidence can change. Constant performance to the contrary, Jozy is lazy, Donovan is soft, Ream can pass but not defend, Wondo is only MLS-good, and Lenhart is cheap.
    Who is Lenhart again?

  • Eric

I know Sporting KC are in first blah blah blah they still play ugly soccer. The Red Bulls are the most entertaining team in MLS. Henry is absolutely brilliant.

  • JRP

Entertaining if Henry is on the pitch. A total snoozer if not. You can’t build a league with one player. It takes teams. Red Bulls don’t have a team, they have a player.
