SBI MLS Best XI (Week 31)

It was a good week in MLS for playoff-bound forwards.

Fabian Espindola, Sherjill MacDonald and Chris Wondolowski are all key figures on teams heading into the MLS playoffs, and all three showed they are ready for post-season glory as they each turned in outstanding performances over the weekend.

Espindola, MacDonald and Wondolowski all scored multiple goals to lead their teams to important victories, and all three earned SBI MLS Best XI honors in the process.

FC Dallas is still trying to make the playoffs, and while their chances are slim at this point, the only reason they have any chance at all is the heroics of goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, who made several key saves to help Dallas salvage a point against Chivas USA.

Eddie Gaven did his part to help the Columbus Crew keep their playoff hopes alive, scoring a vital late equalizer to earn the Crew a precious point against Sporting Kansas City.

For the second straight week we had so many outstanding performances by forwards that some very deserving candidates fell just short of the Best XI. This week, Philadelphia's Jack McInerney barely missed the cut, while Seattle's Fredy Montero was also a worthy option who came up just short.

Here is the rest of the SBI MLS Best XI for Week 31:

  1. how does najar make it? he made a horrible decision.

also – robles should definitely be on this list after his performance vs DC

  2. Dejan is so frustrating sometimes. He has games where he makes a case as one of the best CBs in the league, and then he has games like he did against Toronto.

  3. +1
There were looong stretches when Portland couldn’t even touch the ball followed by a goal or 2, and almost 3.
If he keeps integrating in, Seattle could be very good.

  4. I loved Espindola’s “Whose Got The Biggest” celebration. I love that pic even more because you can tell Franklin not trying to acknowledge it…but he can’t look away, either.

  5. Thanks for the inclusion of Brandon McDonald. I know DC has just been grinding out wins for a while, but Dejan was really off in Toronto and Brandon won virtually everything in the penalty area. Granted this was against a Toronto FC offense but still he was implacable.
