SBI MLS Best XI: Week 34

The last week of the MLS regular season may have felt like a pointless exercise for teams already eliminated from the playoffs, but the games provided an opportunity for some players to give their fans a reason to be optimistic about 2013.

From Federico Higuain’s two-goal effort against Toronto FC, to David Ferreira’s two-assist showing against Chivas USA, and A.J. Soares game-winning goal for the New England Revolution, there were plenty of efforts that brought smiles to the faces of fans who have endured disappointing seasons.

Playoff teams also saw players deliver in key matches with post-season implications. Thierry Henry and Dax McCarty were vital to the Red Bulls securing third place in the East, and the seat in the semifinals that goes with it, while Bill Hamid and Andy Najar were vital to D.C. United securing second place in the East by tying the Chicago Fire in the regular season finale.

Here is a rundown of the SBI MLS Best XI for Week 34:

  1. Jairo Arrieta should be getting more recognition. Everyone talks about Higuain and somehow that distracts from Arrieta’s contributions to the Crew.
