The Philadelphia Union are coming off arguably their best week of the season, and Ray Gaddis played a big part in helping make that happen.

Gaddis started and went the distance in both of the Union's wins last week, first helping stymie the Chicago Fire offense in Philadelphia's upset victory at Toyota Park before helping the club get a cleansheet win over the New England Revolution on Saturday. For that, Gaddis has been named SBI's MLS Rookie of the Week.

Gaddis edged out another pair of defenders to take the award, as the Fire's Austin Berry and FC Dallas' Matt Hedges also enjoyed strong weeks.

What do you think of Gaddis claiming this week's honors? Impressed by his two performances for the Union? Should someone else have won?

  1. Nice to see former Reading United players performing well in MLS. Amazing to think that two summers ago, my son was being coached in a clinic by Matt Hedges and Ray Gaddis. Too cool!

  2. To be fair, Henry was pretty poor in that match and since Berry was also in the side that conceded three at home to the Union midweek,I think the selection of Gaddis makes much more sense.

  3. As a Union season tix holder, I am glad to see my early appreciation for the excellence of Ray Gaddis recognized on a broader level. He has really matured well with his understanding of the game at the MLS level as icing on top of the cake of his raw talent – speed, tackling, passing, crossing.

    Well deserved, Ray!

How about them ‘eers (Mountaineers! for the uninitiated – his alma motta)

  4. Have to think it should have gone to Austin Berry for locking down and clean sheeting Thierry Henry in a must-win road game at NYRB.

Talk about stepping your game up.

  5. We may have a bad team right now but we are golden in drafting players. Michael Farfan + Gaddis in the late rounds in two straight ears.
