UEFA Champions League: A Look Ahead

By NICK IUELE

Spanish powerhouse FC Barcelona and Scottish champion Celtic square off in the day’s most high-profile match of today’s UEFA Champions League Match Day Three action.

Both Barcelona and Celtic have yet to lose a match in Champions League play, with Barcelona being a perfect two for two and Celtic earning a win and a draw in two matches. A win for Barcelona could give them a strong hold on the group, while all three points for Celtic would mean a one point edge in Group G for the Scottish giants.

If you are looking for a match that should feature plenty of attacking action, look no further than Chelsea’s visit to Shakhtar Donetsk. The Blues are tied atop Group E with the Ukrainian side, but with Juventus looming, today’s match is of vital importance. Particularly for Shakhtar, which can’t afford to drop points at home if they are going to have a legitimate chance of being the surprise team to emerge from the group.

Group F leaders BATE Borisov (yes, you read that right) will look to build on their stunning upset of Bayern Munich with a win against a strong Valencia side. With Bayern expected to handle French side Lille, BATE can’t afford a slip-up at home.

Manchester United takes on a feisty Braga side. United won their last UCL match against Cluj 2-1, while Braga defeated a solid Galatasaray club 2-0. The Red Devils could take a commanding lead of Group H with a victory, which would push them to a perfect nine out of nine points. Braga already lost once and another falter could put them in jeopardy of missing the next round.

  1. I don’t remember where I read this, or even if it’s true, but Messi is apparently on pace to score over 100 goals this season….

  2. Would like to see Lille – Bayern. I am also curious about the Cluj – Galatasaray match, just because we rarely see those teams in action.
