Union vs. Red Bulls (Match Day Commentary)

Philadelphia Union LogoNew York Red Bulls Logo

The New York Red Bulls will establish their playoff position in the Eastern Conference today when they take on the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park (1:30pm, NBC).

The Red Bulls can move up to the No. 3 seed with a victory today against the Union, but could wind up stuck playing in a Wednesday Eastern Conference wild card match if they fall short against a Union side playing out the string.

On the Union side, Freddy Adu’s exclusion from the squad will garner the headlines today, but the match will also serve as a final chance for the team’s players to convince Hackworth that they deserve places on the Union roster in 2013.

SBI will be providing live commentary on today’s match so please feel free to follow the match with us. As always, you are welcome to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

  1. Pajoy with the header! While he hasn’t been super productive since coming over, certainly has a few timely goals. Vamos United.

  2. Go DCU! Kitchen man marking Rolfe. Without DeRo, lots of hopeful long balls out of DCU midfield. Hope we can bag one on a counter or cross/corner.

  3. Official has made a real mess of this last 10 minutes. Okugo is going THUG right now running around the feel shoving everyone and anyone.

Also, Freddy Adu has had to deal with that all year. Strikers missing everything.

  4. That’s a red card and penalty any day of the week. When the official is refusing to give that you know you’re getting blown out.

  5. After having horrid luck with keepers last year NYRB came into the season without a single proven net minder yet somehow lucks into 3 different guys all playing quite well for them. Strange, huh?

  6. Man, Philly is the absolute consistentlynworst finishing team ivenever laid eyes on. They are completely, lamentably, absurdly wasteful.

  7. If that’s true, I rest my case for ever.

Farfan had a bone bruise preventing him from striking the ball with his laces and the coaches left him on the field because “he’s important.”

If I was a Philly fan I would riot.

This just in. hurricanes are wet and windy. stay inside. enough with the forecasts

  9. The press conference is over. It’s just a weatherman giving yet another in an endless series of forecasts. Would this be happening to an NFL game? Hell no.

  10. And yet again US TV is giving MLS fan a big middle finger. After the ESPN games that were not shown because of women’s college softball or basketball spilling over, some dumb press conference that no other channel is showing anyways is telling US soccer fans: “we don’t give a s h i t about you”

  11. Is it really necessary to show every second of this press conference? CBS and Fox are still showing their regular shows. Come on NBC.

  12. This is what they’ve become? A lone striker counter attacking team?

You bought Torres, Adu, got rid of LeToux, bought a bunch of really young, not skilled wingers and then wonder why your best players don’t fit with the team? This club is such a joke. At least teams like Toronto have a clear vision and are hampered by unbelievable bad luck with injuries, etc.

    • just dont understand why they just dont play adu up top with jack mac in a bob bradley esque 4 2 2 2

      Mac
      Adu

      Marfan Daniel

      Carroll Lahoud

      Williams Valdes Okugo Gaddis

  13. So now that the storm news conference is over…(damn you Frankenstorm! Trains shuttin down at 7pm tomorrow night yo!)…let the game begin!! I’m a RBNY fan but looking to see how Okugo can do at CB against Henry. I think he has a shot at a bright overseas future if he stays at CB.
