Americans Abroad: Weekend Preview

By FRANCO PANIZO

Jermaine Jones has been quietly piecing together a strong season, and the 31-year-old midfielder will have an opportunity to further build on that when he takes on his former club in a marquee match on Saturday.

Schalke host Eintracht Frankfurt in a battle for sole possession of second place in the Bundesliga standings. Both teams are currently level with 23 points, and Jones will attempt to break that tie in Schalke’s favor while battling the team that started his professional career in 2000.

If you are wondering what other match will be worth watching, look no further than Brad Guzan and Aston Villa’s home game against Arsenal on Saturday. Guzan and the Villans were battered by Manchester City last weekend, so they will be looking to rebound by grabbing a result against the talented-but-underwhelming Gunners.

Another game that should be entertaining is the second leg of Club Tijuana’s semifinals series with Leon. Edgar Castillo, Joe Corona, Greg Garza and Xolos suffered a 2-0 loss in the first leg on Thursday night, and they will need a big performance at home in order to erase the deficit and advance to the finals.
