When Jurgen Klinsmann was hired as U.S. Men’s National Team head coach, it seemed only a matter of time before he would schedule a friendly against the other national team he used to coach, Germany.
That friendly is in the works, and if the German Federation can get full approval from the German Bundesliga, Germany will play the U.S. in late May. (UPDATE-At present, none of the reports out of Germany about the friendly have identified a location for the friendly, so at this point it is unclear where the match would be played.)
The friendly would take place before the United States plays a trio of World Cup qualifiers, and could mark the first game against Germany for German-born national team players like Jermaine Jones, Fabian Johnson, Danny Williams and Timmy Chandler.
What do you think of the prospects of a USA-Germany friendly? Like the idea of facing an opponent that tough before the trio of June World Cup qualifiers?

How about bringing it to Atlanta? When was the last time we had an international match here?
Well, the USWNT played China in Kennesaw not too long ago.
Mexico vs. Bosnia was the last men’s international I can recall.
Need the Falcons to get that new stadium and some grass, then maybe we can see the Nats here.
Kicker is reporting that Germany’s first game will be May 29 in NYC, Boston or Miami against an opponent to be named later, while Germany will play the USMNT June 2 in Washington.
Great, great news, this is.
Look, I’m fine with US Soccer getting their occasional cash grab if they need it to keep the budget straight. But, please, no 5 games in 18 days like last year. Dead legs killed us vs. A&B and Guate.
June is where we need to pull at least 7 points, if not all 9.
If I’m going to attend games next summer, saving my $$$ for meaningful hex games. Not this.
John Anthony Brooks played for Germany’s U-20 team in a match against Poland today. So much for Sciaretta’s article a couple weeks ago…

well that’s too bad.
Well here we go again… commence calls to cap German-American in 5.4.3.2.1…
Conspiracy theorists, ready, go….
great! now bring it to Soldier Field so I can walk to the game…
+1 with the help of the el
Awesome! USA always needs to compete against the best, and Germany are always one of the top teams in the world. Bring it to Livestrong Sporting park in Kansas City!!!
Playing against germany deserves a bigger venue!
Read it will be at RFK, I wonder if that means RFK won’t get a Hex game
I figured it would be RFK — and I already figured we’re out for the Hex.
S’alright.
wow, this could either be a great idea or terrible.
Imagine how happy Jones and Jurgen would be if we won!
Wonder if die Mannschaft will taunt the German born Americans with taunts of ‘Schwanz Schluckerin’ und ‘Scheissekopf’ und ‘Schwarzi’
Just don’t play the game in Milwaukee. We need a pro-US crowd! Unless it’s free beer and bratwurst night!
looks like 2 games v. Germany, one in may and one in june. i think these games are essential. Look at the games Klinsmann is getting us. we are playing awesome, only getting better, and a lot of it is credit to our friendlies. italy brazil mexico russia . . . next year Germany 2x. this is what we need. Coach Klinsmann knows what it takes for us to be champions.
I think its only one game. then Germany is playing a second game in the US
Yeah its great what he is doing, but it’s not that impressive. Bob got us Brazil, Mexico, Spain, England, Argentina. I don’t think it is too hard for us to get these games. Its all about money which the US is never lacking, unless it is the under the table type of money. The US does not do that well! cough world cup cough
Yes but what were the scores in those games?
Yes, and thanks to Bob we have Bradley junior as well.
france and belgium too.
The away games are more impressive to me. It says that the other team is willing to play us and not just to come here and pick up some big cash.
Can we call ourselves the Germany ‘B’ team? Seriously vs Russia we had Chandler, Johnson, Williams, and Jones starting with Boyd on the bench.
All of whom are American as well.
Except is’ more like a “D” or “E” team…or maybe “F” or “G”….
Wow… your patriotism and support of our boys is amazing!
so this’ll be a USMNT intrasquad scrimmage then?
one guarantee is there’ll be more native German speakers than English on the field and in the coaching box…
hmm I wonder which side Timmy Chandler would play for.. probably won’t accept the call up.. we’ll call it a “conflict of interests”
if Timmy Chandler suits up for Germany, SBI’s server will crash
lol yes it would
I bet Chandler starts for the US. after the anthems, he hits Klinnsman with a steel chair and tears off his US jersey to reveal a German one underneath
Very clever….nice!!!
Now can we play Egypt? That’s what I want to see . . . wit vs witless
Should be a good game.
Loser gets Timothy Chandler.
Love it! But, wish it was in LA!
Agree totally. MNT can’t play friendlies against most Latin American teams in L.A. just because of the heavy Latino population that would root for the opponents. Germany might be different. Unfortunately, Home Depot Center is beginning to look older than its age, and I’m someone who frequents the place often.
