Soccer Saturday: Your Running Commentary

Queens Park Rangers sit at the bottom of the English Premier League standings, but they will be counting on new manager Harry Redknapp to lead them out of the basement and their first chance to start that climb takes place at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

With Manchester City facing Chelsea on Sunday, Manchester United could move into first place again with a win on Saturday against a QPR side that has yet to win a match this season. Redknapp won’t be on the sidelines for today’s match, but the new manager will be in the stands to watch the struggling squad he has inherited. One with more talent than a winless team normally has.

Brad Guzan and Aston Villa are also in the relegation zone at the moment, but they will look to ride the home-field advantage to a win today against Arsenal. Guzan has been solid for the Villans, but he hasn’t been able to keep the club from suffering consecutive losses to the Manchester clubs.

  1. two things. How did Arshavin get this bad? wow. he has lost all his mojo. Also Gervinho is …. fill in the blanks. Arsene has got to regret those two signings. Hard to have impact when those two are your attacking options off the bench.

      • Accidental, Shmaxidental. he was corraling that back and he knew he was near the edge of the 18. The ref would totally have been in the right to eject him.

on another note, Guzan is looking very capable.

    • it did not even come close to preventing a goal, there were like 3 arsenal defenders in the box and it was on the side. agbonlahor had also already run past him (and shoved him along the way)

  2. O/T… There is a report that Charlie Davies got ejected for head butting (or lunging at) an opposing player. Ives, albeit under unfortunate circumstance, curious how CD9 is doing at Randers (beyond not seeing much game action)? He in Randers’ plans for the 2h of the Danish season; made progress in regaining touch, timing, etc?

  3. O/T but who do u expect to retire or not be called up after the WC? Id say Dempsey, Donovan, Cherundolo, Goodson, Gooch, Jones, Gomez, Ream,

    • Dolo will most likely retire.

Gomez — I have no idea.

Gooch won’t get a call up.
Ream won’t get a call up.
Goodson probably doesn’t get a call up.

Donovan won’t be at the 2014 World Cup either through injury or early retirement.

      • Donavan and Dempsey I think will still be playing– especially Clint. Ream isn’t going to retire— he’s just not USMNT quality right now.
An in-form Gooch is a surefire pick in the 23. Problem is he hasn’t been that quality.
Goodsen is a liability with lack of strength at CB, and hopefully won’t see feild.
Dolo will still be there, fitness is still top class. Whether or not he starts hinges on Chandler– and potentiall Michael Parkhurst, RB is our deepest position, including GK.
