UEFA Champions League: Your Running Commentary

Barcelona and Manchester United are set to return to action in the UEFA Champions League, and all they have in mind is booking their spot in the next round of the competition.

Both Manchester United and Barcelona will play their respective fourth group games as visitors, and neither is a shoo-in to head back home with a victory. Manchester United is traveling to Portugal to take on Sporting Braga, while Barcelona is facing Scottish powerhouse Celtic in Glasgow.

One player from the Americans Abroad contingent will also play in today’s action, as Michael Parkhurst and FC Nordsjaelland go on the road to play Juventus. Parkhurst enjoyed a standout performance against the Italian heavyweights last time around, so a strong outing from him is not out of the question.

  1. Agree with Biff. Reffing tonight was appalling in favor of UEFA-lona. How Mascherano doesn’t get sent off is beyond rational thought. And how long was that extra time going to go? You could almost here Sepp Blatter calling Parkhead and yelling the ref’s ear “I don’t care if you make zee extra time twenty minutes! You do NOT end zat match until Barcelona scores or you’re all FIRED!”

    • If ur talking the pentalty I actually thought it was a fine call. Rooney got there first and the guy (who seemed to think Rooney was going to take it first time) slid to block the shot but took out Rooneys legs

  2. Celtic played a great match, totally humiliated Barcelona, despite — of course — a lot of help for Barca from the ref. Alex Song playing on a yellow totally creamed a Celtic player from behind knocking him flat and the ref did not give a second yellow. Song was subbed out a few minutes later. And then in the 88th minute 18-year-old Tony Watt, who scored the winning goal — a beautiful strike after, believe it or not, Xavi gave the ball away — took a long pass and was heading toward goal for his second goal of the match and right before the penalty box last defender Mascherano grabbed Watt’s shirt sleeve and pulled him down, a straight red card offense and the ref — of course — turned a blind eye and let the play go on.

    • I did not see that, but reading the game ticker it says the ref at first did not call the penalty and Man U players were howling for a penalty and then he gave it. Agreed–pathetic.
