USWNT to play China three times in December

The U.S. Women’s National Team will try and round out their successful year with three games in a span of eight days in December.

All against the same team.

The U.S. Women will finish their 10-match Fan Tribute Tour with three December games against China, starting with a tilt at Ford Field in Detroit on Dec. 8. The two teams will then head to BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston for their Dec. 12 meeting before playing their third and final match at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla. on Dec. 15.

Recently-appointed U.S. head coach Tom Sermanni will not be leading the Americans in the three games, but he will watch the team play in them in person for the first time since taking the job. U.S. Soccer Director of Women’s Development Jill Ellis will coach the team.

The Americans played China earlier this year, beating them, 4-1, in front of a sell-out crowd at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. on May 27. Alex Morgan scored twice, Abby Wambach added another and China netted an own goal on that day.

The U.S. will play later this month, as they host Republic of Ireland on Nov. 28 at JELD-WEN Field in Portland before facing them again on Dec. 1 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale.

What do you think of the USWNT playing China three times to end the year? Do you see the U.S. winning all three of those games? Who will impress Sermanni?

  1. Damn it, why not Canada? We play Canada three times, stomp them into the ground in an away-home-away series, playing in Toronto and Vancouver, once in the US. When Canada loses, Christine Sinclair is forced to go on the PA and admit the US is the better team and deserved to win the controversial Olympic semi-final. What other match could bring interest to the womens’ sport in the US and Canada? Why not try to end the tour with a bit of controversy? Sure, we are breaking in a new coach, but at least play the final game against Canada. Grow the game!

    • Why is it outrageous? These games are the players’ bonus for winning gold at the Olympics. The USSF doesn’t have money budgeted to pay the players a bonus, so they hold these games and give them a portion of the ticket revenue.

  3. It’s totally ridiculous that they’re not going to play in Northern California on this post-Olympic tour. Detroit?? They seriously don’t think they can sell more tickets in the bay area?
