How does San Jose vs LA Galaxy at Stanford Stadium on June 29 not make the “more interesting and anticipated match-ups” list???
They are two of the best teams, it was a 50+k sellout last year, and the Quakes coming back from down 3-1 to win 4-3 followed by Beckham kicking the ball at Cronin and then fighting the mascot made it THE BEST GAME of 2012.
This is way off topic.. but can anyone tell me if any of the january camp is open to the public? Can’t find any info anywhere
i think everyone who watches MLS is accounted for in this comment section
HOU v FCD…yawn.
To be fair this is always FCD highest attended game… mostly buy Houston fans but still.
I hope the ratings improve this year. I’ll try to watch all games.
Is Chivas playing in a Sunday league? lol
How about SKC vs Seattle?
Red Bulls vs Union is not a rivalry. The Le Toux derby? who cares he was useless here.
Agreed on both counts. It’s proximity, not rivalry.
A couple of kids threw gravel at each other during their first meeting, so by MLS standards it’s a rivalry.
There isnt any other game i look forward to more besides DC then the Union game. Rivalry but amongst fans.
First Colorado/Seattle meeting is on 4/20.
I see what you did there, MLS.
Haha. Quite the coincidence.
And of course the game will be played in the Mile High City.
hahahahaha
Can we get the season started already. The offseason is too long damnit.
I guess SJ vs LA rivalry no longer has any signifigance… Last years match at Stanford with 50K in attandance was probably the best regular season game in MLS.
I agree about that game last year, but the only game in SJ this year is at Buck Shaw which is too bad because the rivalry won’t translate well to anyone other than the 10K in attendance.
Why do you say it’s at Buck Shaw? The SJ Earthquakes Facebook page says it will be at Stanford Stadium again. Plus all five games between the two teams last year were quite good, including two at Buck Shaw, so it’s not solely dependent on location.
IIRC, the move to Stanford last year developed some time after the schedule came out… or was that just the game played at the baseball field?
The list of matches we put together was just a preliminary sampling. No real need to get bent about particular matches not being included on that list.
Can we please pick a different person to be the face of the MLS? I can’t stand Keane. His goals are great to watch and his talent is amazing but everything he does before and after is deplorable.
No, we’re keeping him because he’s better than your team’s strikers.
He was probably the sharpest (certainly top 5) striker in the league. Wondo gets more goals but they aren’t as special or as creative. Sabo had one more goal but played three more games and is much less exciting to watch. I still hate Keane. And it will be interesting to see the Irish nob gobbler perform without his underwear model sidekick. My guess is he will struggle. And if Landycakes goes, you are hosed. How many of Keane’s goals were fed to him by Beckham’s service? Just don’t think 2013 is gonna be the year of the Keane.
Challenge accepted.
So Gnarls is actually Robbie Keane? Clever Irishman
*On behalf of the LA Galaxy and Robbie Keane, challenge accepted.
Second challenge: Learn a new celebration for the goals he does get in 2013.
I like the week 3 regional rivalry matchups. Great idea for early season excitement
Seattle Sounders vs Portland Timbers
LA Galaxy vs Chivas USA
Real Salt Lake vs Colorado Rapids
Montreal Impact vs Toronto FC
FC Dallas vs Houston Dynamo.
You forgot the biggest and oldes Rival game in MLS NY-DC
+ 1000 ,cant wait to play DC scum
Did anyone see the IFFHS football league rankings? MLS ranked 37th in the world. Still too low. I tried to post a link to the list, but it was modded out of existence.
I don’t know exactly how those rankings are calculated, but they do take into account participation in tournaments outside of the league. As soon as MLS starts competing with Mexico for CCL championships on a regular basis, and then participates in the Club World Cup, you’ll see MLS’s ranking move up. But being ranked below Iran, Moldova, and Greece is a slap in the face.
MLS is arguably on level with Norway/Swedish/Polish/Romanian league. basically a top 25 league. arguably a top 5 league outside Europe
Sweet! just below Iran and Sudan!
We’ll be taken more seriously when we get a balanced schedule. That’s even more important than switching to a fall-spring calendar in my opinion.
Hmmmm…..if you go to their site, it’s “USA,” not “MLS,” which is problematic. Do they count TFC or PR in the semis like RSL? Do we get any credit for being the second best in a region dominated by one league, which has 1/6 of the berths and usually 3/4 the semifinalists? Since we’re usually the 4th semi team?
Also, not all the regional berths are handed out in transparent, fair fashions. I grumble a little at CONCACAF’s use of stadium rules to make it harder for the smaller countries. But Asia does some weird assessment scheme that picks 10 countries that get all the guaranteed berths to the ACL. Some of the criteria is not necessarily purely sporting. Qatar has as many slots as Japan.
Then, some of this is “objective” numbers defeating common sense. Worse than Sudan? Iran? Worth noting in their world club ranking Seattle is ahead of LA then Houston. That likely reflects their statistical pile of USOCs but plainly not league reality.
MARCH 9th- Colorado vs. Philadelphia ?????????????? How is this on the list?
that’s what i was thinking
Me too.
Me too, and I’m a Rapids fan.
The Conor Casey derby….
lol, yeah, well played
Interesting story for Rapids fan but not much of a storyline at sea level.
Conor Casey’s return to Colorado. Nobody ever said these were the ten BEST games of the year. Settle down.
No Dynamo games?
Pssh.. child please
And insert foot in mouth.
*exits with curtsey”
Agreed. Surely there are a couple SKC v Dynamo games worth watching?
HOU v SKC is getting to be a much better rivalry then HOU/DAL.
For a game that has the potential to bring in some travelling fans, why on earth would MLS schedule the game on a Sunday (I suppose at least it kicks off at noon)? It appears that the game is on ESPN2 so I guess I need to look no further for the answer to my question.
