MLS- FC Dallas

FC Dallas agree to Homegrown Player deal with Woodberry

FC Dallas is two weeks away from having some interesting decisions to make at the 2013 MLS Draft, but they will head into that event having already landed two quality college players.

Dallas has reached an agreement to sign Maryland defender London Woodberry to a Homegrown Player contract, sources confirmed to SBI on Thursday.

Woodberry joins South Carolina forward Bradlee Baladez as players to reach Homegrown Player deals with FC Dallas this off-sason.

Woodberry was regarded as one of the better defenders in the nation in 2012, and would have projected as a first-round pick had he been made available in the 2013 MLS Draft. A centerback for Maryland in 2013, Woodberry projects more as a right back on the pro level, but should help FC Dallas with his versatility.

FC Dallas will look to add even more young talent at the MLS Draft, where they hold the No. 7 overall pick.

What do you think of this signing? See FC Dallas heading in the right direction?

  • Clayton

Is he Terry Woodberry’s son? Like the Sidekicks’ Woodberry?

Good signing – liked watching him at Maryland. Good luck kid.

I really don’t see why he is projected as a RB. What is he 6’2″. He seems like a very capable CB, but I guess with Dallas he may find more time at RB.

Last I heard Ihemelu was being moved to the outside due to his concussion problems.

    • Paul Miller

I know other websites have projected him as a Dallas outside back for most of the recent college season. He is fast, so that’s probably why. Ball skills are so-so for MLS, however, but much better than they were (the previous season they were so-so for NCAA).

Nothing has ever gone wrong for an FC Dallas homegrown signing so I’m sure it’ll work out.

  • Rob218

London played RB his freshmen and sophomore years. With his experience at CB and his ability to press forward into the attack, London will do fine at the next level. I look forward to watching him in MLS.

    • Darwin

London also played forward in his days at the FC Dallas youth academy and lit it up. He scored 38 goals as a junior in high school (in a district that also produced Lee Nguyen, Ramon Nunez, Greg Garza, Conor Doyle, Andre Akpan, Omar Gonzales, and Alejandro Moreno)

  • Dlewis

Nice guy, spent some time with him at the Maryland camps. Think he’ll do fine at the next level as a center back or an athletic more defensively minded fullback.

HG talent doesn’t go anywhere you fool it stays home. Hence Home Grown signing. Dallas had produced a lot of great talent. FCD U18s national champs

Now that the Union broke up the Cooper-Le Toux doppelganger duo, FC Dallas can join them with the Woodberry-Castillo. It’s hard to beat the Farfans though…
