Wenger confirms no Arsenal loan for Henry

Thierry Henry will not be returning to Arsenal for a third time. At least not this winter.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger made that clear on Tuesday, after the Gunners finished a 1-1 draw against Southampton. His revelation put to bed the notion that Henry might spend a second straight winter loan spell with Arsenal.

The 35-year-old French star is coming off an extended vacation, meaning it would have taken him too long to get back to match fitness and help the Gunners, Wenger said on Tuesday.

The Red Bulls had made it clear that they were not interested in having their marquee player head out on another loan deal, and now they stand a good chance of having a rested Henry ready for the 2013 season.

What do you think of this development? Glad to hear Henry will be staying put this winter? Think he could have helped Arsenal this winter?

Best thing for his legacy in my opinion. He can’t get any bigger than the legend he already is there, and the magic of his first return isn’t going to be topped. Plus, Arsenal are not in a great place right now so there would be undue pressure on him to provide goals where they’ve been lacking.

I think this is good for Henry. He needs to give his body a rest. At 35, he cannot recover from all the little traumas that are part of soccer quickly enough. Some time to rejuvenate and get little (and maybe not so little anymore) aches and pains under control before subjecting himself to more is called for if he wants to continue to play.
