USWNT to face Canada on June 2nd in Toronto, first meeting since Olympics

It is a rematch you can bet Canada has been waiting for, and one that should offer plenty of entertainment and tension.

The U.S. Women’s National Team will take on Canada in a friendly in Toronto on June 2nd, the Canadian Soccer Association and U.S. Soccer announced on Tuesday.

The meeting will the first between the countries since the Americans defeated Canada in the Olympics semifinals in a hotly-contested and controversial match. The U.S. went on to win Olympic gold while Canada rebounded to win an Olympic bronze.

“High quality matches on foreign soil are always tremendous challenges and are excellent environments for our team to grow,” said U.S. head coach Tom Sermanni. “Surely the USA-Canada match will be filled with emotion and these are the type of games our players very much look forward to.”

What do you think of this news? Think Canada will exact some revenge and beat the Americans? See this as the top rivalry in women’s soccer now?

  1. First off the US will win because they have done it once they can do it again. With that win they have confidence and winning the Olympics is no longer a factor in this match. It will a very great game ending hopefully in a 2-0 win if not more!

  2. Vicious isn’t a strong enough word to describe the attitude in the south stands when this happens.

Poor Solo, she’s not going to have much time with the ball that night.

Don’t be surprised when you hear an audible count anytime she has it.

This is going to be brutal.

  3. As they say, “break a leg” Canada, but your own, not our USA players’. I hope it doesnt get too physical.

I do see this as a top rivalry now, but after we beat them 4-0, it will go on as a one-sided only rivalry.
