UEFA Champions League: Your Running Commentary

The first two matches of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 kick off in Scotland and Spain, where first-leg action features Juventus traveling to Glasgow Celtic (2:45pm, Fox Soccer Channel), and Paris St. Germain visiting Valencia (2:45pm, MSG+, Fox Soccer Plus).

Both Celtic and Valencia are the underdogs in their pre-quarterfinal series, but both come in confident. Celtic hasn’t lost to an Italian team in eight matches, a span that goes back more than two decades. Valencia boasts a similar streak against French clubs, having gone unbeaten in 17 matches against French teams, a run that goes back more than 30 years.

History won’t matter much on this day, with Juventus and PSG boasting very strong teams. Paris St. Germain is unbeaten in 12 in all competitions while Juventus has just one loss in their past nine in all competitions. Juve will look to become the first visiting team other than Barcelona to win a European Cup match at Celtic Park in 23 matches.

  1. Celtic fans aren’t even amongst the loudest in Europe, let alone the World.

Besides that, they probably did deserve a draw, I think they played quite decent. Pushing and shoving in the box occurs in every game, stop being so butthurt just because it happened against you. This is Champions League,is it the pinnacle of football. Score what you find and don’t let in easy goals, stop blaming the referee or italians.

  2. Always funny hearing the butt-hurt Scottish announcers trying to claim Celtic were the better team and how disappointing Juventus were after winning 3-0 away from home. They just can’t seem to accept Celtic is not even on the map of world football anymore.

  3. Celtic should have had at least 2 penalties in that sequence. For the official to card Brown for complaining about the Juventus players bear hugging him with their back to the ball on the corner is outrageous.

Let the Italians cheat and they will. Blatantly.

  4. The Celtic-Juventus game is awesome. Hope the second half is as good as the first. Celtic is dominating had chances, just not able to convert. The Celtic fans have to rank among the loudest — and most rabid — in the world. Amazing spectacle.

  5. I missed the first twenty minutes, but from what I’ve seen Celtic are very unlucky to be behind. Bossing the game, most of the game being played in their attacking third, though creating little in the way of shots.

  6. This is the first time I’ve watching this new PSG team and I already hate them with a passion. What a bunch of whiny, immature over paid prima donna babies.
