We reached the 11 episode mark for The SBI Podcast and the latest episode is an ode to goalkeepers as we brought on two of the top American goalkeepers in the game to join us as guests.

U.S. Men’s National Team goalkeeper Tim Howard joined us from England, and we discussed a wide range of topics including the state of the U.S. Men’s National team, Landon Donovan’s absence, Everton’s season so far and even his surprising love for country music.

On the MLS front, we continue our extensive pre-season coverage of the most controversial team in MLS, Chivas USA, by having the head Goat on the show. Goalkeeper Dan Kennedy joins us from LA to talk about the new look of Chivas USA, the team’s outgoing new head coach, and Kennedy’s own look back at how things ended for Chivas USA last season.

Co-host Garrett Cleverly and I also discuss the U.S. Under-20s as they return to action today, as well as some of the MLS wheeling and dealing that has taken place in recent days.

Be sure to give the show a listen. Here is Episode 11 of The SBI Podcast:

  1. I have to admit I want to see Chivas USA this season. It will be interesting to see how they build the roster, build the tactics, formation, and see it go. I do not think they will play too much of a English Premier League style of game. I think they will be different from most MLS teams. I have not seen them in preseason so the regular season will be a surprise. Chivas USA got three players loaned from Chivas Guadalahara: a Defender Luna, DM Mejia, and F Casillas (looks like a backbone of the team). IF they play the way I think they will they WILL be in the playoffs this year.

  2. Considering this summer is the Gold Cup, and most of the usual suspects are not going to appear in the tournament because of no Confederation berth. Should Dan Kennedy be an option at Goalkeeper? I’m aware of Guzan, Rimando, Sean Johnson and Hamid, but from what I’ve seen he could possibly do a decent job if given the opportunity. His performances in MLS have kept his team in most games, it just so happens Chivas has had por defenders over last few seasons. That said, Goalkeeper is not our biggest need right now, even though competiton is never a bad thing, and he is unlikely to start over the names mentioned above at this point.

    • It will definitely be interesting to see if JK puts Guzan on the Gold Cup roster, he’ll defintitely be on the qualifying roster, but at the same time won’t be playing…think Kennedy deserves to at least make the bench for the Gold Cup.

  3. Ives,

Have you thought about putting this on Stitcher? Nice app for podcasts. Nice job on the podcasts; enjoying the ones I’ve heard.

  4. Love the podcast. If I had one complaint I guess it would be the phone or text messages that seem to go off every episode. Not a big deal, but still noticeable.

Also, not really sure it would work, but some of the more entertaining things might be to have fans call in and just rant/vent about their team sorta how you see sports radio do it. Just a thought.
