Mexican League Rewind: Morelia halts Pachuca run, Atlas’ streak snapped, and more

By IVES GALARCEP

Morelia has had an up-and-down season in the Mexican Clausura, but they recorded their biggest win of the season on Saturday, beating Pachuca and snapping the Tuzos’ three-match winning streak.

Hector Mancilla scored two goals to help Monarcas rally and score a win that kept Pachuca from climbing into the Top Four in the standings.

Atlas missed a chance to close ground on first-place Tigres when they settled for a scoreless draw against a struggling Queretaro side. The draw snapped a four-match winning streak for the Zorros.

Club Tijuana showed few signs of fatigue from their Copa Libertadores travel in posting a 2-0 victory against Atlante to stay within range of Tigres.

Here is a closer look at the past weekend in the Mexican League:

    • I thought Ricardo Bocanegra was locked up by Mexico. If memory serves me, he played as part of their U-23 team during the Olympic Qualifications, and you cannot switch federations beyond the U-20 level. Correct me if I’m wrong, as it would be nice to have another option come from below the boarder.

  2. Those two matches should be good. Impressed with how well Xolos is doing playing two tournaments with such a limited squad. Should be interesting how long they keep that up.

  3. I thought the Queretaro – Atlas game was going to be a good one because of what was at stake. Nope, looked more like a regular match. Well so long Gallos, enjoy Ascenso MX next year
