The U.S. Women’s National Team seems to have caught the injury bug, and it’s not going away soon.

Midfielder Carli Lloyd has suffered a fracture in her left shoulder, ruling her out for six to eight weeks. Lloyd suffered the injury during the national team’s first match against Iceland at the Algarve Cup, leaving the match in the second half. An MRI revealed that the damage to the shoulder was worse than thought, though surgery will not be necessary.

Lloyd was allocated to the Western New York Flash, but with the injury, will likely miss the first month of the upcoming inaugural National Women’s Soccer League. The New Jersey native has accumulated 151 caps and has scored 43 goals since debuting with the national team in 2005.

Lloyd was one of the USA’s heroes during the 2012 Olympics, scoring four goals, including both goals in the final, a 2-1 win over Japan. It was Lloyd’s second time scoring a game-winning goal in an Olympic final, repeating her heroics from 2008.

  1. Did anyone else find it amusing Carli said at first it was a “minor strain” also how she played for at least ten more minutes with a broken shoulder?

  2. Sorry for the loss of Carli everything and the kitchen sink Lloyd.
Looking forward to US V Germany. US Should play with attacking presence and speed.
This is the way to beat the Germans, You got to take it to them and never let off the gas.
    Best Attacking line-up
    Morgan, Press, Leroux,
    Rapinoe, Averbuch, Heath,
    O’hara, Saurbrunn, Krieger, Dunn,
    Harris
Bring in Wambach, in the second half to terrorize a tired back line. This should be her role moving forward as a joker/super sub.
Cheney has not been herself for a while, can’t seem to find the broadside of a barn or create as of late.
Buehler, is much improved, but it still makes her the 6th, or 7th best option on D.
Smash Boxx, is good for a second half when holding the lead, and O’reilly is always a hundred percent effort.
Mewis, has alot of promis at mid
Horan, would like to see what she has learned at PSG
Rampone, Has been a great defender and leader however her time is running out.

    • She’s looked good, still showing some rust at times but that’s to be expected after such a bad injury. She scored a goal against China in the Algarve Cup.
