With the first week of the 2013 MLS season in the books, it is time to look back at all the action on the latest episode of The SBI Podcast.

Co-host Garrett Cleverly and I discuss the top games from the weekend in MLS, including the thrilling six-goal shootout between the New York Red Bulls and Portland Timbers, as well as Real Salt Lake’s impressive opening win at San Jose.

We also touch on the U.S. Under-20 national team’s impressive run to the CONCACAF Under-20 Final, Edgar Castillo’s injury and Jozy Altidore’s continued red-hot form.

Give the show a listen after the jump:

(NOTE– In case you’re wondering why I sound like Alvin from Alvin & the Chipmunks in certain parts of the show, we had some technical difficulties while recording from Portland. I haven’t met with an unfortunate accident that has me sounding that way naturally so don’t worry.)

What did you think of the show? Agree with our take on Week one? Anything you really disagreed with?

  1. Keep ’em coming! One request, can’t always listen at work, can you make it downloadable so I can listen to it on the commute home?

  2. Could you please make a ‘podcast page’ accessable through the main page kind of like your miscellaneous tab or to the right of the screen like your sbi video channel, except for podcasts? That would be great, thanks.

  3. Just to mess with people, Ives & Garrett should just have Megadeath/Slayer blasting on the intro for SBY Podcast 25…jolt people out of their headphones.

  4. SMH, Ives you ever get tired of searching for lame ass excuses as to why your such a George John doubter? Haha, after three+ years of em now your just left with “well…it was against the Rapids” knowing damn well he’s had MANY monster games against the Galaxy and every other top team/striker in the league. You seem so real and genuine in all your other analysis related to this sport, what gives? ego?

    • Dude, relax. I thought he had a good game, but it wasn’t exactly against a dangerous forward tandem. I still gave him his due by putting him on Best XI this week so I can’t have THAT much of a problem with him, right?

For the record, I was raving about John BEFORE he was drafted, at the Combine. It’s not like I said he wasn’t going to be any good and I’m trying to hold on to that. When he’s at his best, he’s very good, but he’s not nearly as consistent and dominating as you make him out to be. I’d say there’s far more evidence of you having an unhealthy fascination with him than there is of me having a problem with him.

      • John has been on your bestx1 many times…that’s why i call you out when (like you did on your podcast) you seem to be such a hater. That, however, has nothing to do with your music selection and damn near everything else you write about. At times I think you do it just to annoy me lol
