Sunday’s soccer activity involves four of the biggest clubs in England, with both Premier League and FA Cup action on display.
The hopes of cup glory are on the line, as well as aspirations of competing in next season’s Champions League.
Tottenham visit Anfield in a Premier League matchup that includes two of the best players in the English game. Both Luis Suarez and Gareth Bale sit among the top three scorers in England, and the man in better form today may very well decide the fate of the match. Tottenham sit rather safely in third place at the moment, but with ten matches left, nothing can be certain. Liverpool will be looking to ride their good form at home, and spoil the Spurs’ hope at finishing top four.
Manchester United and Chelsea will kick off just 30 minutes after Liverpool and Tottenham, in a crucial sixth round FA Cup clash between the two massive clubs. Chelsea have a staggering record in the competition over the past several season, with the London club having won four of the past six tournaments. Sir Alex Ferguson, however, will be looking to reverse his recent fortune, and win the tournament for the first time since the 2003/04 season.
If you will be watching today’s action, please feel free to share your thoughts, opinions and some play-by-play in the comments section below.

Nice subbing by Yallop…Adam Jahn-baby Goonie. Quakes were dead in the water with Fucito up top and Salinas still trying to figure out what to do with the ball. Thankfully NY was a complete mess. Petke is going to lose his job if he doesn’t do something to light a fire under Cahill and Henry, combined they play about 22 minutes of football in a 90 minute match. Petke is trying to instill some grit and work rate…he has absolutely nothing going on up top with that kind of effort…completely toxic. The day NY gets rid of Henry is the day they begin to be a legitimate functioning team.
what has happened to george john?
wondering the same thing. might be going thru a brek shea- type fugue since the transfer didnt work out, and has lost some motivation for the time-being.
He mishandled a shi*tty back pass…his first error in ages. What do you mean what has happened, he was team of the week 7 days ago lol. Overreact much?!?
At least Pepe doesnt go on twitter with a STAY ON YOUR FEET campaing, while having a diver on his team (Young). At least Terry and Pepe embrace what they are lol.
FA has lost all remaining credibility if Ferdinand isn’t gone for at least 3 games for that. My god what a tosser. Does he not know there are cameras trained all over the pitch? Going to put your eljow in someones back and your cleat on their Achilles and pretend he dove?
Its too bad there isn’t a third leg to the Madrid fixtures so that Pepe could end this garbages season.
Rooting for Pepe… Wow.
Why didn’t mikey bradley play yesterday?
Suspended.
If Dempsey missed the two chances Siggurdson did today Spurs fans would crucify him. But they pat him on the head and say “its okay, Gylfi” and go on blathering about how wonderful he is…
Honestly, This anti-American bias is really annoying.
As long as siggurdson sucks I’ll be happy. Agreed to go to Liverpool salary agreed everything spurs offered 20k more he dipped said it wasn’t about money. Though without Rodgers he wouldn’t be worth anything. Ok.
Liverpool fans will never forget.
Here you go everyone.
Rio Ferdinand stomps on Torres achilles off the ball and then pretends Torres dove.

Cheating wanker.
And after watching it again he also puts a forearm through his back. Just straight up 5 game suspension like action.
Seriously.
Hey Fergie, was that a red card you drunk? Thug players through and through.
Torres with the 94th minute dribbler to DeGea after superb counterattack. DeGea came up big for ManU or Chelsea wins that game
Ok Gus Johnson…I am sure you r a great NFL announcer. Please just leave our game alone and go home. You don’t have to yell. U have the microphone! I keep waiting to hear “Swing and a miss-Strike 3!
Can’t you learn calling youth games?
Ian Darke, in the name of all that is Holy, please rescue us.
I think you’re in the minority here. Most comments about Gus have been positive.
Disagree, he is not cut out for soccer.
I don’t know man.
People said the same thing about him in the NCAA and the NFL. Traditionalist don’t like his style, but traditionalist will watch no matter who’s calling it. It’s about bringing in the average viewer. Something that Gus has been very good at.
leave ‘our game alone’??? oh boy
Johnson’s here to bring the sports crazed soccer illiterate into the game. He’s not Martin Tyler or Ian Darke, but he’s already substantially more entertaining than some of the guys that call the Serie A games on Fox Soccer.
Soccer elitists will never fully accept anything but a western european accent calling the games, but maybe he’ll manage to introduce a new demographic to soccer.
American broadcasters have always tried to sell the game on the Hispanic model of “la pasion” which involves a lot of dramatic yelling and a straightforward play-by-play that builds in intensity.
What we need to broaden the appeal is more analysis on the play as it unfolds.
The sound of the voice isn’t relevant to me, but what the voice is saying does matter.
He’s on a five year plan. This investment will be worth it – he’ll probably rock the 2018 WC.
Totally agree this is clearly a long term investment
you all can thank the Earthquakes for this idea. i like Gus’ style- he’s only going to improve and will very likely have a big role for ’14 WC.
Anddddd we’re back to United playing by a different sent of rules.
How Rio was not ejected for that sequence of events is staggering.
Rio away from the ball just outright kicks Torres to the ground. Rips him up off the ground and acts like he’s upset Torres dove and then goes to the referee and claps in his face for not carding Torres.
Just. Wow. He just ran up to Torres and kicked him away from the play. That is nonsense.
Wow! Rio is a Dick! Extremely lucky the ref didn’t see that.
I like Rafa, because he pretty much banished John Terry, now, if only we could find a replacement for Ashley Cole. I can’t stand those two, even though I’m a Chelsea fan.
Ramires!! Come on Chelsea! Come on Chelsea! Come on Chelsea!
Brilliant from Hazard. You cannot guard against a strike like that.
wow, horrible defensive mistakes and Spurs may lose
We need deuce, and friedel.
Vertonhen with the double!
COYS!!!!!
Who is the american commentator on the Man v CHE match? Surprisingly not bored out of my mind… He’s got a spark at least.
That would be the NCAA’s Gus Johnson.
I’m enjoying Gus, he’s getting more comfortable seems to me
Gus and Shaka were awesome in that game. Very exciting and great tactical insight from Shaka.
+1
Shaka? Shaka Hislop? That was Ian Wright..one of Arsenal’s legends
Really? Sounded like Shaka to me. Either way, spot on analysis. Didn’t just insult the players the whole time and explained the impact Luiz and Mikkel had on the game really well.
I was watching the game w/ my father who is not a soccer fan, but he was able to pick up on the impact Mikkel made in the game largely because of how well the analyst broke down the action.
indeed 🙂 Wright was excellent too, called the second MU goal on the free kick, insights on the great GK play.
Jesus. Chelsea are terrible. Spending too much time on the ball. Uncertain in midfield and on defense. Cech just totally useless thus far.
So did Rooney’s goal glance off of Luiz’s mop? Guess the ball just sailed through everyone but looked like Luiz gave it a nudge towards the back post.
And Cech just made a double save as Luiz almost flubs the rebound from Cech’s save on Rooney into his goal. Almost the equivalent of Mark Sanchez running into his lineman’s butt.
The moment your one of the coaching staff on camera making a mastabatory gesture.
Sounds like a jeopardy answer… I’ll take ‘mastabatory gestures’ for $1,000 Alex.
The moment your one of the coaching staff on camera making a jerk off gesture.
Wow. Splendid lofted ball to set up Chicharito’s header by Carrick.
What’s up with Bradley not playing or even suiting up yesterday? I haven’t seen anything about an injury…
He’s been benched lately, but yesterday he was out for suspension.
he’s been coming in as a sub
Cameron seems to be playing well at RB. At least I think that’s Cameron. Feed is pretty grainy.
If the first 5 minutes are any indication, the Spurs defenders are going to have a long day.
first 5 minutes usually aren’t a good indication – takes a little while for things to settle. And home sides usually tend to come out of the gate faster.
though I do worry about this Spurs lineup with all the injury absences
Clint still out recovering. Also, Lennon doesn’t seem to be in the side today – injury?
He did limp off vs Inter so maybe or maybe they just don’t wanna risk it…
This Millwall v. Blackburn game is horrid. I don’t know if all the players are just too keyed up with the semifinal berth on the line. Mis-hit passes, shanked shots, clumsy fouls all over the place…
This can definitely serve as a piece of evidence in the argument that MLS is better quality than the Championship.
Ugly, ugly soccer… But, I’m glad Rovers get a chance at home.
I am so confused watching this match.
Grainy feed where I am and Geoff’s number literally appears at almost every position on the field at some point. Am I crazy or has he already played like 4 positions?
Yes, and yes. 😉
He’s playing fullback on the right, but has been very active getting forward and whipping in crosses.
Geoff Cameron is looking very sharp. Especially since he has been playing for over a year without a break.
Please Cameron dont get hurt!
In some good Yanks abroad news, both T Boyd and Gomez scored. Ives – look forward to seeing those clips!
Yanks abroad has the highlights (as well as a Zimmerman goal too). I won’t link to it because Ives might take it down but that google search engine works pretty well.
Well i lied and it looks like they took it down. But soccer over there has the highlights too.
Stoke, wtf? Cameron playing left mid today…
I’m really not into Stoke’s style and wish the two Americans there played elsewhere
ok, so despite the lineup shown earlier, the commentator just said that Cameron is at left back
From what I’ve seen so far, I’ve spotted Cameron at right back, right mid and right center back lol. But not left anything yet.
I know! They definitely have no idea where he’s playing (and neither do I, really).
So I can watch a MLS game in Spanish or a Liga MX game in English…blimey.
Univisión and its family of networks has long had MLS games in Spanish. I suppose ESPN3 will have Puebla-Pumas in English, so that’s new, but if they have the same commentators as for the Mexican National Team games you’re better off to mute it. Or watch it in Spanish or muted on Azteca America.
You forgot Colorado v. Philadelphia at 3 PM…
i for 1 am hoping for a movie someday on Dempseys life
will you and the rest of his insufferable fanboys jerk off while u watch it?
O/T but i really hope Agudelo turns down Celtic and moves to Holland this summer. He will be better because of it
Look for a winter move for Juan. He will be available to go on a free transfer, and would have more choices.
when is Dempsey back from injury? Spurs have CL in the Fall. will need him
supposedly in a few weeks, and well before the fall!
What kind of moron in the scheduling department did not put Liverpool v Tottenham on a normal channel?
Milwall vs Blackburn… Boring. somebody gonna lose their job
They wanted manu chelsea on 30 minutes later in FA cup… who cares
